Phillip/Bryan: Frazier at halftime

  • Have you heard anything about him having a bit of an emotional, confidence, breakdown during halftime that pretty much forced a change in direction for the 2nd half ?

Did not happen. He was essentially benched for taking the sack that took them out of reasonable field goal range. If you recall, Arkansas wasn't even rushing. They had dropped eight into coverage. I'm not saying it was the right or wrong decision, but that's what happened. There was no breakdown.

has Kyle been instructed not to run? He waits so long i wonder if they fear he will be injured so he is told to stay inthe pocket?

No. They would much prefer for him to run instead of taking sacks. As Loeffler explained it, if there is nowhere to throw the ball and there is a running lane, he should take it. If not, he should throw the ball away.

Well, he hasn't used his feet that effectively that much...and Kiehl said it himself that he has to work on getting rid of the ball. There are just so many nuances... I don't even know what to say or ask.

I think Fraizer learned a bad habit in HS-this notion that he can force some things and it'll turn out alright. This isn't HS though-its SEC football- and his receivers don't really present many mismatches and anytime in the pocket is borrowed time.....

This has been the frustrating thing for me though... it's a pro-style offense.... Flipping establish the run and get fat off of play fakes. Literally, Frazier has suffered paralysis by analysis while the opposing defenses have seemed to be calling the play in the huddle.

But truthfully, I can't think of a harder transition to make given what this change requires from a QB with little collegiate experience (and zero pro-set experience) and an O-line that while very talented are frankly just babes. Add in the preseason talk about McCaleb running between the tackles (an aspect of the proset that is an absolute essential) and we really should have predicted this coming a mile away. It would be an improbable miracle had this transition worked out in year one given what Loefler has to work with.... Still it couldn't be uglier and IMHO, it has cost this team a chance to be 4-1. Will it be worth it? I don't know but I also don't know how Chizik could back out of this decision or how he could suddenly choose not to develop Frazier for the future.

  • agree 100% was not a good decision on his part. We needed some points for a spark. He needed to sit.
