***Philip Lutzenkirchen: Gene Chizik emotional team meeting...

  • ***Lutzenkirchen said he hasn't had a lot of time to process it. He said he's disappointed in the season and having to let Coach Chizik go but understands it's a part of the process. He said he has a lot of respect for Coach Chizik and another program will get a great coach one day.

***Lutzenkirchen said Chizik told team he was disappointed in himself. Lutz said the players gave him a standing ovation.

"It was an emotional meeting. It's just tough for the program today," Lutzenkirchen said.

***Lutzenkirchen would have liked to seen Chizik get another year but understands the decision Jay Jacobs made.

***Lutzenkirchen on going from National Champion to Chizik being fired in two years.

"It's crazy but that's life. You go through highs and lows," he said.

***Lutz didn't want to answer a question on what this year's team was lacking that the National Championship team had.

  • Lutz is a stand up guy. He will be greatly missed but hopefully we will see him on Sunday's making more one handed catches.

  • Sad for sure. I liked Chizik and read his book.

He is a good man but he regrettably just wasn't able to succeed at head coaching at the SEC level. Apparently some personality foibles sabotaged his success. I'm not resentful or bitter for what happened but numb and extremely down and most importantly now just incredibly relieved and happily optimistic we can find someone else who can lead us much better and succeed in the West.

  • Good to hear about the standing ovation. I'm going to miss the best tight end we've ever had. See you on sundays Lutz!

  • Its sad, but its also sad when you have to put a horse down when it can't run anymore.

Sure, Chizik will get money transferred to his account, but he has to move out of the football complex. He isn't "Coach Chizik" right now.

He has to take that lonely drive back home to his wife and kids and tell them he was fired for the first time ever. He has to sit and relive all the mistakes he has made in the last two years. The death of his mother will have time to set in on him.

I feel for the guy. Depression is sure to hit him hard unless he is truly delusional. Meanwhile, we as fans can look forward to a better team as soon as this spring I hope.

When the White team beats the Blue team it will be the first SEC victory in a long time...

Chizik does not strike me as the type to get "depressed". He will feel sadness and disappointment, but depression? No. He has his priorities in the right places. A Proverbs 31 wife is behind him 100% and he practices his faith. And I can promise you those ARE GOOD PRACTICES.

Last night on the radio he was asked a similar question by Q in the locker room after the game. He said the team lacked consistency and then went on to say that in the future he hopes some of the players have more of a team mentality. I thought that was a very interesting comment.

  • There are plenty of good people that get depressed. Depression doesn't always mean your priorities aren't straight.

  • I wish nothing but the best for Lutz at the next level. Great Auburn representative being added to an NFL roster in the near future. wareagle
