Phil Lolley

  • Do you think his job is safe given GM wanting to change the structure of internal administration to replicate other recruiting templates? Lolley was originally hired as an assistant strength coach and has been on and off the field coaching several times. In my opinion he works until he gets his 25 years, which may be this August and then he is gone. He has done a good job but I think GM has other plans.

    Your thoughts?

  • I think Coach Lolley's job, whatever that may be, will depend on several factors - how well he and CGM have worked together in the past, the needs of Auburn football at the present time, and how well Lolley has interacted with the new coaches on the staff. I think CGM will weigh all of these things when making a decision on how best - or not - to use Coach Lolley. Actually, I would think no job is safe in the coaching profession. The only lifetime tenured coach was Paterno, and we saw how that worked out! WDE!!

  • I think that was referring to a series of articles on TOS that outlined the structure that Saban had at Bama. There is apparently a second layer of coaching and recruiting personnel that are strongly directed to the high school coaches in the state and maybe out. They offer direction for the high school coaches in whatever is necessary to help their programs. There is a lot of other stuff that I don't even know about but it is apparently a strong PR and support system for the high school coaches. Some of these people are paid and others are volunteer. That may be connected with the coach at Vigor possibly being hired by Alabama. I don"t know.

As far as coach Lolly goes, I think he is an excellent coach, well respected by his peers and the players and well known by the Alabama high school coaches. I don't know the outcome but he could be a key resource for GM and maybe used in a new capacity. I hope this is correct info and I hope it helps.

  • I totally agree with you on Coach Lolley. He was put in a bad situation most of which will not see the light of day He did not forget how to coach. People seem to forget Carlos Rogers and Jerraud Powers
