What are you talking about? You won't know who the candidates are until you 1. have an opening and 2. put feelers out to see who is interested. You could start with the active college football coaches who have a higher winning percentage than Petrino. There are 13 of those guys by my count. Don't say none of those guys would be interested. You don't know until you ask. I guarantee you there are guys on that list who are fed up with their situation and looking for an out. There are 64 NFL coordinators. Some of those guys are up and coming potential head coaches and some of them would like to be a head coach at a premiere program like AU. Don't tell me that they wouldn't be successful because they don't have head coaching experience. Petrino made his name as an OC for the Jags. There are even NFL coaches and former NFL coaches who are fed up with the NFL and would like to coach in college. There are college coaches who are winning big at smaller divisions who would love to move up to a program like AU. The bottom line is the argument that the only coach that can win at AU is Petrino is garbage. One other thing, the anti-Petrino crowd is not the minority in the AU family. There are a few message board posters who are continuously keeping his name on the board and using the fact that he is a known and other candidates are unknown to cloud your perception. They say name another candidate so they can shoot them down either due to the defense he runs, his religion, or my favorite: no way he would be interested. The fact is: there will be plenty of folks interested in the AU job and several will have as much reward as Petrino without the risk. Now, keep in mind I'm assuming there will be a professional AD in place or there might not be many people interested in the job including Petrino.
