Perspective:Firing someone is a BIG deal

  • So let's just keep them so we don't hurt anyone's feelings. If I wasn't doing my job my boss wouldn't hesitate to fire me. So what's the difference here. Yes it will be a tough situation but it's what's expected when you fail to preform what you get paid to do. And heck most of the coaches are going to get compensated with there buyouts in place. To me 7.5 mil is one heck of a severance package.

Just thought I'd throw this into the mix for some perspective.

It's easy to type a call for someone's job on a message board. Imagine yourself being called into the boss' office. Not so easy....especially if you're the type like I'm sure most on this board are that throw themselves into what they do with all of the heart and soul.

    I'm NOT calling anyone out.

Just wanted to remind all of us that this is a BIG deal with real life consequences for people including the HC and all of the way down. We're not just talking about one rich guy. We're talking about a big group of people, their careers and their families.

I think we're a little to giddy in our look to a hypothetical future. This is actually a sad thing. If it comes to the end of the Chizik era, this is failure that represents saying goodbye to some important members of the Auburn family-all good people, all our neighbors, and part of our community.

Anyway, this is a hard time for Auburn athletics.

He has made enough money. He will be ok. I cant go to my job and not perform and keep my job. Y should he be able to. 3.5 million bucks u need to perform.

  • I view it as he has fired himself by making poor decisions.
Something has happened. There's a reason he couldn't hire a big time OC. All that talk about taking his time and getting the right fit was just a bunch of bull.
I won't believe another word that comes out of the man's mouth

  • Yeah, well, it's true, people lose their jobs. Happens all the time. People otherwise unemployed get those jobs instead. In a way it balances out.

And I think quite a few coaches are leaving anyway. I am pretty sure Luper is done, and Grimes and Trooper would have suitors. It's part of the business and they know this.

  • I will put in my two cents.

Firing someone, in my opinion, is never hard. I have done it a good bit and never had a problem with it. If you are getting fired, you have failed to live up to expectations plain and simple. Laying someone off, is very difficult. Someone who IS performing well but you just can't keep them from a numbers perspective.

As of Nov 2011, Chizik was the 8th highest paid coach in the country and Petrino was 7th meaning that Chizik moved to 7th. Does his performance give that much value. He might be a nice guy and a good christian man, but at the end of the day we have won 1 game. His decisions have lead to this point and they are monumental failures. He made a decision to go with an inexperienced OC but is that the problem? I don't know and I suspect it isn't all of it. He decided to move from spread to "pro-style" even though we still go into wildcat formations, stay in shotguns a good bit and rarely utilize an All-American fullback. Another monumental failure.

I would be glad to give Chizik another year, hell give him two, if the team showed ANY improvement over the course of this year. But the team is tearing itself apart to the point where it may not be salvaged at all, even next year under new leadership. Don't fool yourself into thinking that an off-season will fix the problems this team has because it won't. There are some serious issues that I, and just about everyone else, don't know about but have some sneaking suspicions.

With the poster who said that he would walk in and resign out of shame, I am with you on that. If I truly loved where I was working and did such a poor job as what is happening, I would do that same. $7.5 million is a lot of money but self-respect is much more.
