This actually would serve as pretty good precedent to say at least some sanctions should be warranted at Auburn for the armed robbery, shooting, and other incidents. It would also be precedent for UGA.

I think the NCAA may be on a slippery slope that will probably lead to the courts and ultimately the demise of the organization. While I don't condone what has done by the PSU staff and administrators, this is activity outside the boundries of the NCAA's charter and purpose and is reacting to popular opinion rather than existing rules and regulations. If they do this once, it will be easier the next time, and that next time might not be near as guilty. If they had followed this approach with Cam, then the results might have been totally different since the court of rumor-driven public opinion was already convinced we were guilty.

Or, what about our 4 infamous 'armed' robbers or the Bama player a few years ago who was selling drugs in the Athletic Center's parking lot. 'Obviously' the coaches and administration was not dealing with a 'problem' to allow this to occur. We are a nation of laws, and when those laws are set aside for action that is to appease the mob, then we have anarchy, and at that point, where does it stop?

The argument I keep hearing is that "none of this is a 'football' issue". I'm sorry, but that's patently absurd. Everything done at Penn State was done in order to further the goals of the football program and preserve the legacy and career of a certain coach. If you take football out of the equation than none of this would happened. I mean, Sandusky was using the athletic facilities in order to commit his crimes even well after he retired from the program. There's never been a more egregious lack of institutional control and oversight in the history of sports.

The question? Do you pemalize a great institution in it's entirety for the sins of those already fingured and open to civil and other legal action? A question already asked. To a certain degree, perhaps, but I don't see punishing the innocent, especially players, for the sins of a few. But, forever more, society will consider the football program as part of administrations responsibility. Opinion, not a fact by any means. But, forget it and risk a lot of suffering for ignorance. Currently, Auburn's head football coach understands that football as well as all athletics is run by Jay Jacobs, and Jay Jacobs performance is judged by Jay Gogue. The President has said so and I believe him. If we can't, Auburn is in a mess.

Stop going off the freaking edge people! I never said Auburn's administration covered up anything. So stop going there and READ WHAT I AM SAYING. I cannot care less for PSU. I don't care if they close down the whole freaking school.
I care about the POWER the NCAA has been given. SIMPLE.

The key is that those involved in the cover-up are subject to criminal sanctions and serious jail time. Any action by the NCAA is a late hit, piling on and unsportsmanlike conduct. Besides, if the BOT gave them the power to impose sanctions, why didn't the cowardly trustees just do the job themselves rather than handing over to a third party. As my dad always said, "You always shoot your OWN dog," implying you don't have the vet or someone else do it. That's part of the responsibility of ownership.

As for just punishment, have all of Paterno's victories from this period forfeited and all TV and post season moneys be returned and donated to organizations that help kids like these. That will hurt the Paterno family and the administration without destroying the current team and the vendors and innocent people who earn much of their livelihood from the games and the program.
