Being a student through the Barfield days and what he did afterwards he can meddle and put his two cents in anytime.His opinion is worth more than almost all of us when it comes to what it takes to be successful at my alma mater

  • I would hope an unprejudiced review of staff and personell is completed quickly. We have some great kids and coaches at AU; All do not need to be gone, but all do not need to stay. You sitting in the big chair now Gus and you got some tough choices to make, Choose wisely and you will get all the support you need to make this happen,, from my $50 vanity plate and 2-3 trips down a year at the least. I am looking for 2 to the 2013 ASU game Hollah.

    Today is a great day to love Auburn, a little better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

  • I'm gonna go back to something Trooper said about Gus. according to Trooper they'd be sitting down at lunch and Gus would zone out and start using the salt and pepper and ketchup bottles to set up plays. JMHO, a lot of guys like Trooper that we've ripped over the past two years weren't totally to blame. Once Chizik handcuffed the offense it was impossible to actually tell what guys could or couldn't do.

    I'm gonna remind every one about all their posts of how OK State deserved to play for the NC in '11 because of their "unstoppable" offense and all the fun we had when spanky got schooled by Sumlin and started whining and begging for rule changes to end the HUNH.

    Personally, I would rather have Gus than Jimbo Fisher. No two ways about it. Gus wasn't my first pick either but I believe the guys picked the right coach. I didn't want Strong or Fedora either. Petrino would have won big but the trust issues would have gotten old after a short time.

    I hope Gus gives better press than Gene did... His DC hire will be the most important hire at Auburn since the OC hire last year.

    I agree with you. My first choice was Petersen but CGM was my second choice. I believe CGM is just as innovative, maybe more. I favored CCP because he has more experience as a HC. Gus reminds me a great deal of Petersen and today is eerily similar to the situation when CCP was promoted from OC to HC when Hawkins left BSU.

    No matter what, after this season ended I firmly believed we needed to go back to some type of more potent offensive scheme and we ended up getting one of the best around and the master who developed it.

    Great perspective as always, Phillip. I'm excited to see Gus run the team his way. He's a winner and he won't stop until we win it all again!

    Whoa! Win it All? My I point out that the first thing I want to see him win is the line of scrimage. That down hill running game and the play action passing game can not happen (I hate to be the one to have to tell you) until and unless we get some OL blocking. Then there is the DL that has to be seriously upgraded. The linebackers, the DBs and the QB play (Gus will not have Cam next year) all quickly come to mind. I'm All IN, but let's be realistic. We are still in the SEC West, with 3-4 almost guarranteed beat-downs coming, even if we improve in all these areas. But we can hope; try to not go overboard, though. As Phil said, when he stops will depend on some on-field outcomes, say the next few years. I hope he keeps some of the current coaches, but the OC and DC had such bad results, one has to question if they are even in the running.
