#PMARSHONAU: Turnaround will start up front

  • Thanks PM, I agree with you on the football aspect , There is no way that we didn't have the talent to play with the other teams this past season, That remark that Corey Lemonier(sorry if I spelled it wrong) made was coming from someone who was looking for a way out from being responsible for the horrible effort as a team that they showed week in and week out, They were a team that had no discipline, poor work ethics, and no leadership!!!! I believe that is all gonna change this coming season because we have the right coaches that have sold these kids on being men of character and disciplined men and to work for what they want in life, not only that , but offered them a better way out by working in the gym and getting mentally and physically ready for the tasks at hand and the things to come!!!! The talent is also there but needs to be addressed, we definately have the coaches that are proven for the the job and also are great men of character, so my mind is at ease when it comes to the comments of Corey for we all know that just isn't so and that we are The Auburn Tigers and as long as we believe in Gus & Company then everything will work out just as Gus has showed us that he knows exactly what he wants and expects out of his players! I am proud to be an AUBURN TIGER!!!!WDE!!!!

I don't think everybody else sees that. I know for certain a lot of people very close, closer than you or I, don't see that. I know lots of players who don't see it that way. Lots of players with talent never become great or even good players. Sometimes it's coaching. Sometimes it's because they just can't adjust to the demands of college football. Sometimes things don't click with coaches. It doesn't mean they don't have talent. As I said talent and performance aren't the same. I don't know anyone close to Auburn football who believes they were so lacking in talent that it made sense they could not even compete the second half of the season. I've seen Auburn football teams with less talent compared to their competition than last season, and I've never seen one that couldn't even compete.

You speak as if talent and performance are mutually exclusive. I suppose it depends on what the meaning of talent is. If, by talent you mean the ability to perform at a specified level if properly trained, coached, etc., then you very well may be correct. However, at what point in a players progression do you concede that the player isn't as "talented" as you may have been led to believe? And, what good does "talent" do if it never makes the transition to production on the field. I like Jeff Whitaker, great kid and he's going to be successful in whatever he chooses to do outside of football. But, is he a starter if he's playing at UGA, Bama, LSU, or Florida? No. Was he a consensus 4-star recruit. Absolutely. I could say the same thing about every other D-Lineman with the exception of maybe Dee Ford and Angelo Blackson.

The fact of the matter is this, and it's something you pointed out long before Chizik arrived: Chizik and company recruited based on recruiting rankings and when you do that, you get what Auburn's got. That's a cold hard sobering reality that a lot of folks aren't willing to accept because they play the "well, Bama, LSU, and UGA all wanted him too". However, that's not always the truth. You never know how hard some schools who are allegedly "recruiting" a kid are really recruiting him.
