Yes, we know that quarterbacks often are unable to lead because their line lets them get smeared before they can get set. But Coach Grimes can't teach blocking assignments and techniques if the men turned over to him next fall are not prepared to play with strength and conditioning to last the game. I hated to watch third and two sink to forth and ten, and the weight room is where that changes. Recruiting is great but the won versus lost record isn't going to be imporved next fall by some jiogh school athlete that may go to UGA and if he doesn't, won't arrive on campus until August --14. How are we coming in the business of turning fat into muscle, muscle into weight, and finding a gain in quickness while that good stuff is going on?

Corey was looking for an excuse for his poor performance. Much like everyone else on last years team....he phoned it in, in the second half of the season. That team has talent in abundance, what they don't have is a work ethic and heart, and that starts in the weight room and film room. This team was SEVERELY underprepared for its games last year and it showed up on the scoreboard. You could tell they didn't study or pay attention to film because they always ended up out of position when the ball snapped and were late to recognize plays as they developed. Thats all in the game prep. Were the coaches at fault? Certainly. The coaches fostered the poor work ethic by giving them the independence that they obviously couldn't handle. But the players let themselves and their team down by not doing the work they knew they had to do....and Corey was a prime example of a very talented player who did just that.

Everything was wrong with the program last year and the fault lies squarely with Eugene Chizik. Gus will get all the praise for putting together the right staff if he can turn this thing around over the next couple of years. 2014 was supposed to be our return to the national championship. If we can improve wins by 3 each the next two years we will be 9-3 by then.

Sadly, I'd take it at this point. Just no more nightmare seasons where we don't even get together on my deck for beer and steak because we are too depressed...

Turnaround in second year for tennis means it can be done. Some other coaches need to learn a successful approach.

Lets not throw CL under the bus about his comments, we didn't suit up last year & if we ever got the whole truth about the nightmare from last year it would clean alot of this up. Lets see what this year provides as far as improvement of a program in shambles and then make a judgement.
