“Football is what’s going to make the difference,” said a source close to the situation. “If it looks like things are headed in the right direction there, Jay (Jacobs) will be OK.”

Great loser mentality. There are other sports. And none of them are heading in the right direction. Apparently we don't demand excellence on any level at Auburn, or even strive for it. Meanwhile Jay is thumping his chest over SEC Championships (majority of which were won by a swimming coach he didn't hire and didn't keep) and revenue (majority of which is SEC distributing the biggest payouts in Collegiate history, it certainly isn't our attendance).

My question for the value of anyone is are they talented enough at their job to be coveted elsewhere? In Jacobs case the answer is a resounding no. Outside of a desperate Division III program, I can't fathom any school taking his application seriously.

Five others schools finishing double duty last place before us means nothing. We are the first to finish 14th, and nearly a decade into Jacobs tenure he is having to rebuild his own mess.

TEN of those championships were in swimming. Jay Jacobs did not hire our swimming coach and was instrumental in him leaving. Since Marsh left Auburn swimming has been in steady decline.

The Malzahn hire pretty much has worked out better than anyone could have hoped. The staff he assembled is basically a dream staff and I doubt even the most optimistic Auburn fan would've predicted it's makeup. Signing day was a huge success considering the very short time between the hire and the season Auburn had just completed. I know from personal conversations that the culture is completely different already behind closed doors.

Gus may have been "the easy" hire. But it was also an extremely enlightened hire.
