Under his contract if Loeffler gets fired from VA Tech, will Auburn and VA Tech have to pay him? What a screwy business is bigtime college athletics.

People would not get their panties in a wad if recruits and recruiters would replace the term "commit" with "top preference" or some similar term. A recruit could maintain his status with a school as his "preference" over other schools while still shopping the other schools. The word "committed" has been cheapened and makes it seem that the guys are dishonest and untrustworthy. No player is a sure thing until NSD. Using different terminology could lower the tensions for all concerned.

Regardless of semantics, recruiting is a race. It isn't over for participats until the finished line is crossed, and that's when LOI roll in. Athletes know it, coaches kow it, fans klnow it, writers know it. After a commit, a recruit that cotinues to look has misused the word.

I agree, and Beamer has been around the block too many times to have not thoroughly vetted what went on at Auburn last season before hiring Loeffler. It is clear that he figured out what happened wasn't Loeffler's fault.
