  • If this 65 yr old dinosaur can change to a Mac, you can too. I cursed it for about a month and then fell in love and haven't looked back.

  • I work in technology, and I wholeheartedly believe that it's easier for a user to move from Windows 3.1 to Windows 7 than from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Windows 8 might end up being the biggest disaster in the history of operating systems.

    My two cents: Get a mac. Unless you're playing video games or need to use ARCGIS a lot, there is no reason not to do so. If you are really worried about transitioning from Windows 7 to OS X, get Parallells or VM Ware Fusion and a Windows 7 upgrade disc. It'll get you through until you figure everything out.

  • Problem solved Phillip. I just bought a computer with Windows 8 and didn't like it at all, that is until I discovered a program called Start 8. Once you download this program for just $4.99, your Windows 8 computer looks just like the Windows 7 desktop. Check it out and no I am not a salesman. Just someone who doesn't like change for the sake of change: Here's the website.

  • Geek Squad = Joke. Overpriced and don't have a clue for the most part other than their litlthan using their little Geek Squad Utilities Disk.

    Hate to break to you mac users but they do get viruses and there are more and more people targeting Mac OS now since it runs off of a Linux Kernel.

    Phillip, if you need some more help with your old PC send me a PM and I can remote in (LoL) and see what I can do. It is what I do everyday, work for a Dental Specialty IT company.

  • MacBook Pro may cost more initially but is way less hassle and maintains its performance longer. My 4 year old MacBook Pro works like the day I bought it. My PC... well... it needs a slick and rebuild at this point. In the end, the Mac is a better value.

    I'm a software developer in Windows and Web applications but prefer the Mac. The Mac just works while the PC needs a fresh start every couple of years.

    Working late tonight to meet a project deadline tomorrow, I thought I'd speed thru a few AU sites to maybe pick up some good news to dream about. I shouldn't have bothered. Just about every AU site—except this one—is reporting that our new RBs/Special Teams coach we got from San Diego is busy 'weaseling'(my word) out of his contract to join the Dallas Cowboys. Supposedly he has a prior seven year stint working with Monte Kiffin, blah blah blah. I have no idea if any of the RBs we're really trying to get will be influenced by this one way or the other. My guess is 'not'. I know we will replace this dude right away. It's not that I think we're losing some guru because he was pretty much a nobody before Gus hired him, it's just the way it looks on the surface to some of these prospects. Especially after that opposing recruiter makes a big deal out of it to a kid and his family. It just sucks. Well, good riddance and enjoy your one year with Dallas before Jerry Jones cleans house, coach B--something. I never even learned your name!

    So because YOU'VE never heard of him, he's a nobody?

  • Drink the Kool-Aid...get a Mac! I write and use the internet extensively for my job and I've been working on my MacBook Pro for almost 4 years. It still runs perfectly, but I just ordered a MacBook Air for less weight since I tote my laptop around quite a bit. I would never, ever use a PC machine again!

  • MacBook Pro.

    Have one for our home (2006 model) and another for work (2008 model). Dad has one, too (he is a retired engineer that enjoys playing around with photos and movies of the grandkids). All of these machines have the Mac OS version of the Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) installed for "compatibility" with the masses. The Apple software Pages, Numbers, Keynote are useful too.

    Also, I saw where some computer places are actually offering "downgrades" to Windows 7 for a price. Saw it randomly on the internet, not sure if actually true, but it wouldn't surprise me.

    Get Win 8. There are a couple free add-ons for you can load and it makes 8 almost like 7. One is Classic Shell http://www.classicshell.net/ . Your son can load this and the start button is back. You be able to boot up to the desktop. Also there is was to get rid of that page that does nothing when you boot up. Get son to help bypass that.
