OK, I will be honest. This is 100 percent not a stopgap move. It's exactly what Malzahn originally intended to do before Bisaccia entered the picture. That's honest.

Whether or not this is what Malzahn intended to do orginally is irrelavant. Losing Bisaccia and replacing him with Fountain is a downgrade overall for this coaching staff.

Players don't get drafted based on special teams unless it is possibly as a kick returner. Also, I liked Jay Boulware, but I'm not sure Auburn's special teams were as dominating as some on here seem to believe. Do you really believe Gus Malzahn doesn't understand the the importance of special teams? Do you really think he just decided to do the easy thing, to hell with his own job security? Really? Again, the day Malzahn took this job he planned to hire Fountain as the TE/ST coach. Bisaccia changed that, but he's gone.

Thank you, Phillip. I agree about the special teams not being all that special. I just don't see the fixation on Boulware as the only coach who understands special teams. If he was that good, why didn't other teams try to hire him away?

Whatever. What I said is it's not a stopgap measure, and it's not.

I agree with you that its not a stop gap measure. I also think you would have a hard time finding anyone that thinks losing Bisaccia and replacing him with Fountain is not a major downgrade to this staff. Do you believe that is a fair statement?

I don't see a loss happening here. I thought Horton was the best choice to begin with and then out of nowhere it seemed Biasaccia came out the blue. Fountain has his opportunity. Make the best of it!

    Very well said!

Scott Fountain reaches a goal by returning to the field as Auburn's tight ends an special teams coach.

Great read PM! Very glad to have read this one. I didn't know much about CSF at all. Good stuff!!!

And kudos CGM on the quick and fitting moves! I always had hoped for Horton to be the RB coach since his name was first mentioned in the coach searching! it's all good. Thanks Bisaccia for seeking out CGM and AU - says a lot really - but I wish you well in Dallas too! I imagine it had to have been a very tough decision for him.

Time to get the bus a-recruitin'-rockin!!!

It's better to have Coaches who can recruit than have recruiters who can't Coach!

I can't say that. Certainly, Bisaccia's resume is better and is mostly in the NFL. But I don't know how that would have translated and I don't know what Scott Fountain will do. It's just like players. What matters is what they do. We'll see.

  • Really happy for my good friend, Scott Fountain. A great coach and an even better man! Scott loves Auburn and wants to contribute to Auburn's success way more than he cares about himself, get it? WDE!

  • Extraordinarily impressed with how quickly and professionally Coach Malzahn has made decisions. Seems he had a plan in play before Bisaccia even left.

Best of luck to you, coach o'three weeks.
