  • I think some of these kids don't understand that life is so much bigger than football.

I agree with Old Tiger above. I understand that many players will change their minds, but those who intentionlly string teams/coaches along are much worse. I can usually wish a player well after he changes his mind, but one like TJ Yeldon, I am sorry. If he flunked out of school, or got arrested, or blew a knee...never to play another down, I guess I would be smiling.

" If he flunked out of school, or got arrested, or blew a knee...never to play another down, I guess I would be smiling." You have to be kidding. I think you have a problem if this would make you smile.

  • True words, however I think there is an increasing amount of undue (and unethical) pressure being put on these kids by self-proclaimed "booster HS coaches" toward certain universities by high school coaches with no morals/ethics. IMHO, the the kind of "steering" by HS coaches to go to a certain school as done by TJ Yeldon's HS coach, Liner's HS coache(s), and even the type of "negative" recruiting to try and steer a recruit away from a certain school such as is going on with Lawson's HS coach and his negative obsession with Rodney Garner (indirectly trying to "steer" CL to his "buddy coach" at Clemson) should be investigated by the NCAA. Can Auburn coaches not complain to the SEC office/NCAA offices when these kinds of tactics are employed?

  • Phillip....It has to be overwhelming for these recruits....and now it is about to begin as early as their sophomore years. Ridiculous!

  • Keeping in mind that these are still kids, and kids do the darndest things. I really applaud the kids that are truly taking their time and dealing with their recruitments with the proper respect. Marcus Lattimore comes to mind when I think about how he handled himself when he was trying to make a tough decision between his home stated Gamecocks or AU. He was very humble when he chose SC but his reason behind choosing his home state was carefully thought out as well. The kid felt that he would be living in SC after his career ended and his home state will take care of him for his loyalty. I couldn't blame him for that, although I hate he didn't choose Auburn, but I respected his decision. What TJ Yeldon did and the way he handled it was WRONG and there is no respect in that. WDE

That's awful. If you can truly be smiling if someone has a devastating injury, then you need help of some kind. I would hope no matter what team I pull for, most here would agree with me.

This really is a great article! True, so very true!

Sports reflects life or life reflects sports?

Former Secretary of State James Baker once said, "Someone asked me what was the most important thing I had learned since being in Washington. I replied that it was the fact that power is fleeting." Baker went on to say that once driving through the White House gates he saw a man walking alone on Pennsylvania Avenue and recognized him as a former Secretary of State in a previous administration. "There he was alone - no reporters, no security, no adoring public, no trappings of power. Just one solitary man alone with his thoughts. And that mental picture continually serves to remind me of the impermanence of power and the impermanence of place."

    Good luck young men.
