Third-year coach Tony Barbee searches for the secret to changing the direction of Auburn basketball.
PM it does appear that defection of players may be the main reason the third year has not been good. Why have we lost so many?
Indiana and Auburn have totally different histories in basketball. You are comparing apples to lemons there.
Sonny Smith won, Cliff Ellis won. Bobby Joe, Jeff and now Tony haven't won. I don't know if any have lost as badly, margin-wise, as Barbee.
Baseball use to be good. Recently, Auburn is developing a reputation as a losing school in all sports relevant. And football just came off the worst season in my lifetime.

Today is a great day to love Auburn, a little better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Member of search committe to Pat Dye - "How long will it take you to beat Alabama?"
Pat Dye - "60 minutes."
To fire Barbee and let Jay Jacobs hire the replacement would be a waste of time and money.
It's a new day in Auburn football!
While I hope CTB can find the big man or men we need to have something resembling an inside rebounding/defensive presence inside (and maybe score a few buckets), I have my doubts that we will see much from the incoming class (at least in the first year).
A little internet research has shown me that our Findlay Prep commits often do not see any playing time. While the team has a few 4* players, you would think that our 3* big man and wing would get on the court more than they seem to do. At least they appear to have time to practice. if you look up Findlay Prep, it is often called a "Fake School". The school IS the basketball team housed at a school that only goes up to 8th grade.
Also, I have been unable to find out much about Delph, our 7-0 signee from IMG Academy. All I can find out is that IMG has a horrible record. At least the basketball factory of Findlay Prep wins almost every game.
Below is a link I found with some box scores of Findlay's games. The stats are incomplete, but it is the best I could find.
Again, I hope CTB can turn it around. I just have my doubts.
Hopefully, they keep the present coach. He is trying to build a program by getting the right players because what he inherited was not good. I have sat down with basketball coaches watching Auburn play and they always say there is a lack of real talent there. After 45 years in the business of college sports, I would tend to agree. I have seen them over achieve when they play hard, but they must do that every game and all things being equal, the opposition has more talent and usually wins. We will see how the team develops in the next year when most of the players will be Coach Barbee's own recruits.
Coupled with what happened in football it is a tough pill to swallow but necessary,in my opinion to go forward over the long haul. Remember change does not guarantee success, we could be worse with a new coach just look at Mississippi State.
