Former Auburn great Buddy McClinton, already a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, is on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Buddy was one of the many AU players that I remember during that period when I was old enough to began enjoying football, and sports. In the mid to late 60's AU wasn't the marque program, but they had great coaches, and hard nose players like Buddy and Larry.
Great story, Phillip! The 69 team was on of my favorites, and I will forget that FL game.
Great read. I appreciate the looks back as my earliest memories of Auburn began with the Bear's final IB victory.

I was in 6th-8th grade when Buddy was at Auburn. Although I was always an Auburn fan, during those years I began listening to games on the radio, watching them on TV, reading about them in the paper. Buddy was a part of those Auburn teams.

Great Column!!!!! Thanks... We had some youngsters back then who hustled and would put a Bonnet on You in a hurry!!!!!
Phillip.... Great read! I work with Don Webb and he thinks the world of Buddy as a person and a player.
I love history, and for it to be an auburn tiger makes it even better. Got my history lesson of the day. Thanks PM! WDE!!!

Great read-thank you for the stroll down AU memory lane!
I will never forget that FL game. Somehow my big bro got us on the sidelines towards the end of the game before it was over. I remember all the "jawing" AU players were doing and giving Reeves that day. Was one of my life moments!
Back in the day, if someone from another planet came to earth and asked "what's a football player?" I would have shown them Buddy McClinton,
"Brick by brick, my citizens. Brick by brick"
Thanks Phillip very nice read. I was at that 49-26 game. Had to quit my job to get there but we had tickets and nothing was going to stop me from going!! (Of course my job back then wasn't that much to worry about anyway LOL
I remember the Florida game well. I was at that game watching with awe. All we heard leading up to that game was what Florida was planning to do to us with their Reaves to Alvarez connection. Reaves said later that he hated Auburn because he lost his girl friend over that game.
Great read ! Thanks Phillip !
DAMN RIGHT IT MATTERS !
And now he is a pretty good golfer too. Don't put too much cash down because he only plays on days that end with a Y. He is really fit as can be attested by those who ride with him in a cart. VERY competitive!!! Only wants to beat you badly each and every day. Very Humble also. I did not know until this article that he was a qb in high school. I had the pleasure of being there when he was presented as a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. The other thing that I did not know is that he was such a Bama fan as a kid. You would NEVER know that now. A class individual.
My uncle was a teammate of Buddy's at Auburn, so I have an affinity for the players from those years, but, bias aside, Buddy was a heck of a good player. He is most deserving of induction into the Hall of Fame.
I remember being at that Florida game as a 14 year old. Coach Jordan had a way of getting the team up sometimes where they just could not be beat.
