PM, what's your story?

  • Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am relatively new to the site......I know you wrote for the Huntsville Times for many years and primarily covered Auburn Athletics....you then went on to create Auburn Undercover.

Have you always lived in Auburn? Did you attend Auburn? Have you always been a fan of Auburn? Did your children attend Auburn? Etc.....?

If you get time to respond or could direct me to a bio link....I would appreciate it!

    Thanks,

    Buddha

  • Thanks for the response....you guys do a great job here.

I listen to the Chizik press conferences.....and you seem to be the only local reporter that ever asks any probing questions. Also, Chizik seems to show you more respect when addressing you and answering your questions .....I just love the "Well, Phillip........".

That is why I came to this site and I really enjoy your coverage....I was with Bryan on Rivals previously and always appreciated his recruiting insight...you two make a great combo.

Do either of you ever get so wrapped up with AU that you find yourself watching the games as a "fan"?

  • PM -- Only been a member for a few months but it was great to read about your history. I live in Opelika also and had no idea you lived here. I grew up in the Valley only 20 miles from Opelika and I very well remember reading sport stories written by Benny Marshall. Is that your Dad? When we played high school football it was only covered by the Valley Times, the Birmingham News and the Montgomery paper. Graduated from Valley High in 1960 and remember Al Van Hoose (sp) coming to present us a trophy from the Birmingham News. We managed to be the only undefeated team in Alabama that year in the AAA and AA classifications (largest classifications in those years). Thank goodness Ramsey lost their last game of the year or we would not have had that honor. Benny Marshall was the best known and most respected writer in Alabama during my time in high school and while I was at Auburn.

I've been in this business for going on 43 years. Not once in all that time have I referred to myself as a fan of anyone. I cover Auburn every single day. I didn't have to do that. I chose to do that.

Wow....great response. Spoken like a true professional and "Auburn man".biggrin

Strive for perfection in everything we do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, create it.

This is the way a true reporter should be. something MR. Finebaum does not understand. He is a fan first, reporter second. I met you a long time ago while you were working for the Montgomery Advertisier. I have also met Mr. Finebaum and have never met a more arrogant man in my life.

  • I'll tell you who Phillip Marshall is:

He was a bright spot in a teenager's Sunday morning in Montgomery, Alabama when all the other Montgomery Advertiser guys were writing about how great the TAHAD (iI can't even spell it wrong) was

He wrote (and still writes) with integrity and whether he says it or not - he's an AUBURN MAN!

And, I don't believe it until Phillip Marshall writes it
