  • I guess I can speak on this subject. I've followed Auburn from Bill Lynn to today and even attended 60 straight home games as an elementary to junior high student in the 70s (hard to do with the records we had during those years).

No, Tony Barbee's job is hardly in jeopardy. Was at the game yesterday and there was no question Auburn struggled all day. But they were actually battling at the end of the game--give them credit for that, against a Vandy team that was going all out to prove something on the defensive end (uhh, they most certainly did).

Our talent level is still low and as Phillip said, this is going to take time. Auburn has to develop a winning mentality and that comes by winning. Barbee set that up with the schedule and if we can get a few more wins in the SEC this year than last we're on the right track.

Time. We may not be Duke in three years but we can be competitive.

  • I was at the Vandy game and we fought till the end. CTB is doing a wonderful job with this program. He's putting together the pieces he needs. Coach Lebo didn't leave much behind.

  • Sydney at MSU.They had Venardo who was huge.We have had one true center in the last 25 years and I can't spell Momadu N.Barbee's not going anywhere soon, but his fate will be the same if he does't get a big man.He doesnt need a 5 star all world guy,he needs a 1 star that can play some minutes, score 6pts and get 6 rebounds.Chubb was 2-17 from the floor at Vandy. We have all the shooters in the world.I hope this is CTB priority.

Yes, I'm serious. I'd give a man that has only been at a program for a year and half a chance. We're one win away from matching last years win total. Sorry I believe a coach needs a chance to build a program with his players.

  • Why do we have a basketball team? Why not just shift those funds to football..

  • I was curious if anyone remembers the 6 or 7 years of Lebo. Get your hopes up only to have them dashed each year. They would upset someone at home then go on the road and get drilled by 25+. Mentioned.above the talent level he's still working with is minimal, as, Lebo had trouble building any sort of identity (several players with talent that couldn't get along, stay in school, etc. - usually leaving with a roster with a handful of true quality scholarship players mixed with several walk-ons). Give Barbee a few years to put his system in place and use the new arena/facilities to his advantage. I pulled hard for Lebo, but he was given a couple more years than he deserved. Don't give up on Barbee after a year and a half. He's well respected, gotten visits from a lot of players that wouldn't have sniffed AU before, and showed at the end of last year that he can motivate a team. Last years team although awful overall never gave up. I was happy with the hire - think he did a great job at UTEP, just needs a little more time. Sorry - guess I just figured out I'm a Barbee homer. WDE - even after 2 lopsided losses.

Barbee absolutely makes it to the end of the season and probably beyond. Firing somebody during the season serves no purpose and is not Jay Jacobs' way. They played about as badly as I've seen at Vandy, but they should be much better than that. There are still 15 SEC games left. Regardless of how ugly it was, it's just one loss to a superior team. In the long run, the margin of defeat really isn't important.

PM, what is going on with Barbee's contract? We're almost 2 yrs in and he still hasn't inked his name. I had heard over the summer that significant progress had been made in that direction, but he still hasn't signed it. I really like Barbee and want him to be here, but I don't want him here if he doesn't want to be here.

    What gives?
