  • If Chizik stays...do you think there will be a lot of changes?

Do you think he would go back to the spread?

I think there would be changes, including a return to some version of the spread. At least that's what I've heard.

Oh great. What a fearless leader we have. Throw away the spread. Oh hell, That didn't work lets play a mix. Next year, oh hell this ain't working. Got to keep chopin, ain't no question about that, and things of that matter.....

Ain't no question, you can't coach a lick Chiz in my opinion. Your motivational pregame speeches could not inspire my two year old. You don't think winning is all that important. Well here YOU DAMN RIGHT IT DOES!!!!

  • PM,

to me, the most important question regarding the very hypothetical return of Chiz is this:

do you get the sense at all that he has learned anything this year? As in, would he consider hiring a top-notch spread OC, and letting them coach without undue interference? I may take a lot of heat for this, but if he would do that, I belive that his return could be acceptable to a large portion of the fanbase, because a lot of "average" fans(non-message board readers) still fondly remember 2010, and give Chiz a lot of goodwill from that year. Not to mention his seeming ability to hire great assistants and recruiters.

P.S. Love the site, thanks for all you do and keep up the good work!

I have no way to say what he has learned and what he hasn't. Hiring a proven OC would not be easy under the circumstances.

Exactly, and therein lies the biggest concern for me in retaining him. No top notch OC is going to want to come in knowing that even a mediocre season would probably spell curtains. I would think he would have to promote from within, go back to the spread and hope for the best. That is not a very appetizing scenario, but it appears that it is at least one that is on the table.

If he is retained, I really hope he names himself OC.

  • IF, he is retained, and that's a big IF, I would bet there would already be a new OC hire in process. The new OC would get a 2 or 3 year contract. Most great OCs are not expecting to be in their current position for more than 2 or 3 years anyhow, fully expecting to be a HC or an OC at a different school which gives him a better chance to be a HC in the near future.

There are some very effective OCs out there. Just take a look at the NCAA team offensive statistics for the last few years. The level of control of the offense and how much power he would have to decide who his assistants are would be the major issues that would have to be addressed before an OC would agree to take the position
