Is there any way you can give us an idea of what the power struggle is like at AU right now in terms of the athletic dept and possible changes? Obviously, the president is a player. Who is on his side and what are his goals and motives? Who are the groups opposed to the president and what are their goals and motives. I, personally, just want a big time football coach. I'd like to know who to be mad at if it doesn't happen and who to thank if it does.

That IS the power struggle in and of itself. The President is going to make the call. He is obviously incompetent in regards to athletics. Some of the trustees and/or boosters clearly feel the same way which is why they leaked this story to you. They wanted this info out there to influence the President to let go of te reigns or at least let a few others be involved in the decision. That's my theory anyways and I think that's what the OP was asking you. Please comment on what your sources' opinions are of Gogue's ability to make the right hire.

Cool. I've been supporting Dr. Gogue on this board for some time. And I'm not going to say anything negative about him now until I see how this thing plays out. But he needs to understand that this next football coach needs to be a homerun. From all accounts he has done a fine job leading Auburn through some tough economic times, but he needs to understand that if he takes a chance on an up and comer type coach, that the fans are not going to be happy and it will have an impact on his career and legacy.

Didn't Gogue say he was going to put together a committee of advisers to help in the search for a new coach? Has this been done and who might be part of that group?

I really do want to know PM's opinion on his source's motives, but I didn't think he would answer so I asked the op the way I did. Again, I just want a proven best of the best football coach. I now know who to blame if that doesn't happen and who to thank if it does. Dr. Gogue is the man. I wondered if that was the case after posts about Mcwhorter visiting with Gogue and shortly after reports of JJ probably keeping his job.
