Gogue decided that Jacobs needed to go and so did Chizik. He even went so far as to tell Jacobs to polish up his resume. He then proceeded to hire a national search firm to help him find a new AD. They gave him 6 recommendations of people that would be right for the job and would most likely take the job. 2 of those were highly recommended and 1 was extremely highly recommended. It is not know who the three are but after that Gogue had a 3 hour phone conversation with Les Snead. Gogue was apparently ready to move forward with this plan and get rid of Jacobs and Chizik and then something changed. I don't know what it was, but Gogue broke the contract with the search firm and decided to give Jacobs another chance. This basically ended any shot that we had at some big name coaches, including Jeff Fisher, who was legitimately interested in the job. There is also a potential lawsuit looming against the athletic department which I'm not giving any details about unless it comes to fruition. Basically, Gogue had a chance to really leave his mark on Auburn Athletics in a positive way that would show everyone that Auburn was serious about its athletic programs, but instead he screwed the pooch. That is not to say that Gus won't to a fine job, but we had a chance to have some people come in and go head to head with the evil midget and his minions and Gogue screwed it up.
Despite what other LAMPers out there say, this is the really close to what I have heard in the last week.
