Ohio State joke

  • I'm fine with the 5 game suspension for the guys that broke the rules, it's comparable to that of AJ Green. I'm also okay if this story never blows up any bigger than that of AJ Green...it's not that uncommon of story.

However, I find it a complete joke that OSU's defense and "mitigating" circumstances are the following:

    1. We didn't teach them the rules clearly enough prior to their actions.

    2. They had good intentions, they sold the items to help their struggling families during a tough economy.

Those two things are a joke and they should be ashamed of themselves and embarrassed for saying them out loud.

You didn't explain the rules clearly enough? So when they went over what not to do during their rules education meetings, the idea of selling items for cash wasn't taught?

So was did the rules meeting consist of?

Start of meeting----"Thanks for coming guys. Hey, make sure you don't break the rules this year. Okay, let's hit the weights!!".-----end of meeting.

    Ridiculous.

And they did it to help their families during a tough economy? Isn't everyone in the midst of a tough economy? I wonder if the judge will take that defense if I rob a bank tomorrow. Doesn't the AD realize that even in a booming economy there are probably 20 kids on a team that could justify selling their helmet or jersey to help put food on the table back home?

If I were OSU I would take the 5 games and be happy. There are no "mitigating" circumstances here. They should kiss their lucky Buckeyes that they aren't held out of the Sugar Bowl.

  • lollollol The OSU Athletic Department is a lollollol, if this is the best they can do to defend their current embarrassment off the field. So sad.

  • Helping their families? I thought that the gifts were traded for tattoos? Not making this up....this is what was being discussed on the radio when I first heard about the whole thing. HOWEVER, that initial information could have come from Thayer Evans? Who knows...

Auburn people feel a deep and passionate responsibility to uphold standards not written on paper, but lived from the heart.

I don't know what context that was said but, too me, it sounds like the school is accepting the blame. Am I wrong?
