Uniforms do not lure young men to universities; however, fans, coaches, and a solid chance to win do. Nontheless, if uniforms give the young men a spark and a sense of pride, why not? It's like this, if you do not buy your kid a car or you buy your kid a civic to go to college with, he or she will not love you any less; but, if you buy them a new M3 BMW, you would add a lot more excitement to the equation.

Yep, they used a "drop letter" scheme on the numbers. Still have my Russell Athletics navy blue jersey from those days. I prefer the traditional look but I warmed up to the Bowden era jersey. For some reason I think he also had them change the face masks to orange.

The facemask were orange in the early 80s Coach Dye hated the orange and they went with blue.
