I would of posted this on Dye Hard Topics but it looks like people barely go on there.
I am looking to get an MBA. But first, I need to take the GMAT. I have been working for almost 2 full years now and think the best option is to go ahead and get the MBA.
Have any of you all taken the GMAT? If so, what is the best way to start preparing for the test? I am shooting for the end of May, possibly beginning of June to take it and hopefully get into a school for the Fall.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
My preparation for the GMAT was using a study book with plenty of Multiple choice questions. The key, I think, is to practice as many MC questions that you can. Local libraries should also have study guides. Remember, the GMAT is going to test a lot of skills from your high school days.
I took a Kaplan class, and it was helpful. Not only does it force you to set aside time for study and prep, but they have methods, techniques, and statistics of "how" to take the test. It was helpful in determining what they are looking for with the different types of questions.
If you go to the GMAT website I believe they have " PRACTICE TEST" you can take. I would do that. Then go to any local library or your Alum Library if they allow Alumni to still use (Mine did) and they should have stuff.
You will need to know various things from Math, English, typical problem solving skills. Pick your weak link and work at it.
It's been nearly 8 years since I took it but I did the same, got a book with a CD that contained mock tests. It was very helpful, as the thing was timed and the questions got harder or easier depending on how the previous question was answered. The way I understood it was that it wasn't how many correct answers you got, but rather how hard was the last questions you answered. Could be wrong, like I said, it's been nearly a decade since I took it.
