Avoid all inclusive and go to St John, 2/3 of the island is national park with plenty of hiking and snorkeling available. You can have a beach to yourself if you're willing to hike 20 or so minutes. No palapas or drinks handed to you with umbrellas, but some of the finest beaches in the world. Go to one of their B&B's or rent a house. It's not as cheap, and you won't have the drunk fest as you would a normal AI, but nothing really beats the experience. The food is phenomenal and there isn't a chain restaurant on the island. It's one of the last places in the Caribbean that isn't spoiled by a thousand Marriot's and Wyndham's and Sandals, etc.
I've been to Roatan, Caymans, St Thomas, Bahamas, Cozumel/Cancun, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and all of the main BVI's. To me there is nothing better.
Also, safety is not a concern here that it is on many Caribbean islands. It's really no different than staying anywhere on the mainland.
Check out the Caneel Bay Rosewood for the only hotel there within the national park, or consider honeymoon cottage, a rental home with unspoiled views and complete privacy.

The Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana. We did our honeymoon there it was amazing the food drinks and accommodation was awesome. The service could not have been better! I was dead set on going to a sandals a friend of mine told me to check it out and I'm glad I did. I also used Delta Vacations and got a great deal! Delta Vacations.com has lots of Caribbean deals. Hope this helps!

I'm getting married on August 30th and we are looking to take our honeymoon to a Caribbean Island (no interest at all in Mexico). We would like to spend a week in an all inclusive resort. If you have been to any and have any suggestions or reviews, I would GREATLY appreciate it!
We're looking for nice beaches (sandy, not rocky... don't want to have to wear water shoes to go walking on the beach), good dining options, and good outdoor activities (such as kayaking and hiking).
Thanks guys (and gals)!
