OT -- Recommend All Inclusive Caribbean Resorts?

  • I'm getting married on August 30th and we are looking to take our honeymoon to a Caribbean Island (no interest at all in Mexico). We would like to spend a week in an all inclusive resort. If you have been to any and have any suggestions or reviews, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

We're looking for nice beaches (sandy, not rocky... don't want to have to wear water shoes to go walking on the beach), good dining options, and good outdoor activities (such as kayaking and hiking).

    Thanks guys (and gals)!

  • We got married at Sandals Antigua and was great, but favorite so far is Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica. Close friend said new Sandals on Exuma ( ? Emerald Bay) was great. If you stay 6 days or more the wedding is free!

  • Scrub Island. A private island resort in the British Virgin Islands. I was there in January and it is amazing. We were planning our next trip there before we left. PM me if you want to know more.

  • Avoid all inclusive and go to St John, 2/3 of the island is national park with plenty of hiking and snorkeling available. You can have a beach to yourself if you're willing to hike 20 or so minutes. No palapas or drinks handed to you with umbrellas, but some of the finest beaches in the world. Go to one of their B&B's or rent a house. It's not as cheap, and you won't have the drunk fest as you would a normal AI, but nothing really beats the experience. The food is phenomenal and there isn't a chain restaurant on the island. It's one of the last places in the Caribbean that isn't spoiled by a thousand Marriot's and Wyndham's and Sandals, etc.

I've been to Roatan, Caymans, St Thomas, Bahamas, Cozumel/Cancun, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and all of the main BVI's. To me there is nothing better.

Also, safety is not a concern here that it is on many Caribbean islands. It's really no different than staying anywhere on the mainland.

Check out the Caneel Bay Rosewood for the only hotel there within the national park, or consider honeymoon cottage, a rental home with unspoiled views and complete privacy.

I've been to Hawaii, Playa Del Carmen (honeymoon), Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Eleuthera and Virgin Gorda in the BVI's. Virgin Gorda was the best with Eleuthera a close second. We rented a house and had a chef cook for us (mainly wahoo we caught) and it was amazing. We stayed in Mahoe Bay, but Little Dick's Bay is not far and it's highly rated for honeymooners. It's really nice. Don't stay at the Bitter End...LD'sB is much better. I can recommend a sailing captain and an offshore guide if you like. There's also good snorkeling right off the beaches and especially at the baths, which is a big rock formation at the end of the island that has really cool snorkeling and a few places to eat.

I too would return the the Virgin Islands in a heartbeat. It's amazing.

I was dead set on going to a sandals a friend of mine told me to check it out and I'm glad I did. I also used Delta Vacations and got a great deal! Delta Vacations.com has lots of Caribbean deals. Hope this helps!

  • A few years back, I took a honeymoon to Sandal's Grande St Lucia! Highly recommended. I have also been to Montego Bay... and have just booked a trip (yesterday) for Sandal's Nagril. I won't take that trip until April 2014, so can't comment on that. But, I will say, St Lucia is a fantastic place and will have everything you are looking for.

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials, and have a great time in the Caribbean.
