OT: Need recommendations for Atlanta

  • I second a couple things others have said...

Two Urban Licks, to me, is the restaurant I'd hit. A little difficult to get to (you'll think you're lost when you're arriving), but very unique inside and out. Everything I've had there isn't just good, but excellent.

And Cafe Intermezzo on Peachtree after, another great recommendation. Deserts and drinks are second to none, and another good atmosphere as well.

If it's nice out and you want to stroll around to a few places, Virginia Highlands is nice.

Buckhead or the St Andrew's Area is pretty fun. Could also look into Atlantic Station. They have some places to eat and drink there. Also, Bachanellia is a nice place to eat...Always enjoy it.

Bacchanalia is one of the BESt places to eat in the ATL but it takes months to get a reservation, especially around Valentine's Day. 4th and Swift is a great restaurant for brunch, lunch or dinner. It's in an old cotton factory in the Old 4th Ward. If you're staying downtown and the weather is nice on Sat or Sunday, I'd just go walk around Little 5 Points. Where the 60's and 70's never left :-) Lots of great little shops, catch lunch at the Vortex - GREAT burgers. Not sure what's going on at the High Museum that weekend but I'd check that, too. If the weather is nice, you could also do a picnic in Piedmont Park, pick up something from the Highland Bakery, have lunch at Pure Taqueria (sp?) or at Fritti's. I'm typing this while in a training class so can only go off the top of my head but there are so many choices, especially for food, that I'd start close to where you're staying and work your way out - don't want to spend all your time driving from one place to another. Might want to check out who's playing at the Tabernacle, too. Within walking distance to Centennial Park. There's a couple of other places I'd suggest but can't think of the names right now. I'll try to post when I get home later today. I'd look each place up on the internet and just choose the menu that looks best to you. I would locate some of your top choices on a map of Atlanta and maybe plan your weekend around these locations so you don't find yourself double backing all the time. Depending on what's going on downtown, traffic could either be manageable or horrific. You might also want to see what they're offering for brunch at your hotel. Bet they'll have something special for Valentines day.

  • Best advice I can give is to stay away from restaurant chains - you can go to these any almost any city. Atlanta is one of the food capitals in the south. Google is your friend. Look up best romantic restaurants in Atlanta, best outdoor activities in February, best sunset view, etc. Come up with some ideas then if you need input, you can narrow down your choices. ATL is a great city. Hope you and your girlfriend enjoy.

Hey guys, I am taking my girlfriend to Atlanta for her birthday and Valentine's Day, anyone got some recommendations of fun stuff to do? Outside of the zoo, aquarium and coke factory?

Years ago the Fernbank museum used to do a cool valentines day dinner/cocktail thing. Not sure if they still do but it was pretty cool. Barcelona on Highland Ave in Inman Park is really classy, excellent food and a great atmosphere. Little 5 prob isnt the right vibe for VD...
