Hey guys. I'm taking my first crack at the CPA exam on Saturday (Audit section), and was wondering if there were any recent exam takers (any section) on the board that could offer any advice or tips. I did the Becker in-class review and they're supposed to prepare you pretty well, but I'm getting more and more nervous as it gets closer. Thanks.
I took the CPA Exam in November of 1996. The format was very different then, but I also took Becker. I did everything (and I do mean everything) that they told us to do in the way of preparation. I passed all four parts the first time. I attribute a lot of my success to Becker, although I was a good student in school. In fact, Becker was only offered on Saturdays (during the day) back then. I missed 3/4 of football season which nearly killed me, at the time.
Becker told us that the better you are prepared, the worse you will feel after the exam. Relax and rely upon all of the prep that you've done here to fore. Follow whatever they tell you to do in the last few days mixed with whatever your "routine" is for taking tests (cram, rest, or whatever).
You'll do well, so long as you've prepared as tell you to prepare.

Thanks! I'm taking the Saturday classes, as well, since I travel every week for work. Fortunately, mine started Dec 1 and finish up in May, so I won't have to miss any Auburn games!
I haven't taken it lately. I passed in the late 90s. I do have some general advice to reduce the stress.
Try to get a good night's rest the night before the exam. Arrive at least 20 minutes early and take the traffic, parking, and weather into consideration. Depending on what you like, take something to chew or suck; Gum, mints, etc. Take a couple of water or restroom breaks to stretch. It is not a race. Take all the time needed and don’t be embarrassed if you are one of the last to finish.
Good luck !
I passed it in 1982. I don't think I would be much help. They would not let us use those new fangle things call electronic calculators.

I took and passed all four parts earlier this year using Becker. If you do all the homework (multiple choice) 2 or three times, you will be more than prepared. Audit was the easiest one.
The tests are adaptive, so if you do well on the first set of multiple choice, the next set gets harder but each one gives you more points. Don't get worried if it all of the sudden starts to get very hard.
I took the last written exam in the Fall of 2003 and took Becker. I did everything they said to do including their review cram weekends. If you hav rout in the time, you will be fine. Like others have said et plenty of rest, takes breaks and don't over think through the process. You will be in great shape. By the way, I passed all 4 parts on that first try. Good luck!
Thanks everybody. This has been helpful. I appreciate the input.
Don't over think it. After taking Becker, you'll be a robot on the exam, and if you do all the homework, you WILL pass.
Best of luck!
Welcome back, Coach Gus Malzahn!
Passed in the 80's. CPA = can't pass again. Good
