Some of the theories and thought process on this message board astound me..............

I dont have any idea why you should be astounded. Players playing games for their five minutes of fame works ok for a highly rated player. If you're not one of those elite guys, you can screw yourself by being too cute.

I'm assuming he has a commitable offer from FSU and AU. If so he's got a great deal... and he better not wait too long before making his mind up. Either way, it's an amazing opportunity and something to be proud about.

Unless AU or FSU already has a silent commit from this guy, then he's really running the risk of ending up like darius philon last year. He landed at arkie but nobody thinks that's where he wanted to go. He gave AU the finger, hitching his wagon to napoleon. Chief shrimp screwed him and he had burned all of the bridges back to anywhere else he wanted to go. Not to mention he looked like a total ass clown on signing day.

All I'm saying is, if you're a 5 star, waiting to signing day is cool because the whole world will wait and you can pamper your ego by soaking it all in. If you're a 3 star, might want to strike while the iron is hot.

    Got it?

You are right mhtiger87, but the star ratings are not absolute. Some coaches rate specific players higher than the consensus, and sometimes several coaches do. The star ratings are also static, whereas scouting opinions are fluid. Bell's stock, for instance, seems to be on the upswing. He may have more clout than we know. All that being said, the other idea about him being a silent commit could be correct.

I agree with everything you say.....

I would just add one simple thing. The higher, the fewer. There aren't that many fives... and even the worst one is still a good player.

There are many more three's than fives and while Bell's stock is unquestionably on the rise, you can still reach in the sack and pretty readily pull out another 3. I said in my original post that like Philon, I think he's overplaying his hand. He should be thrilled to have accomplished what he has and gain an education worth well over a $100K. If he's a silent commit, then fine. If he's doing what it 'appears' he's doing....I think we have to question his maturity.

Anyway, all that said, I think he's a very good prospect and I truly do hope that he ends up at AU.
