I got a Nook on black friday and have started going through the free classics library. I'm enjoying going through the greats that they don't seem to make us read in public school anymore (WAY too much talk about God!).
Finished the original War of the Worlds, now I'm on David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. It's 150+ years old and I have to reread sentences and paragraphs every so often I'm really enjoying it and have legitimately laughed out loud a few times. Good thing the nook has a built in dictionary though, otherwise you'll need to read with one sitting on your lap.
Most modern books (even for adults) are written at about a 8-10th grade level, so it can be hard to go back to these more complicated older novels.
