I have been a very vocal supporter of Bobby Petrino. He is my man. I have even emailed Gogue and JJ fervently urging them to hire him in the best interests of AU. I have been getting angrier and angrier at Gogue's and JJ's stonewalling an interview if not censuring Petrino.
I have recently had a baptism of sorts and when i came up to the surface of a new understanding I was transformed. I saw a light which is Smart. I understood that there is no way Bobby is going to be given the light of day here at Auburn, which is my school. And yes i hate it but that is reality. Miraculously, all of a sudden, my negativity and apprehension about everything evaporated and I felt an inner peace. I "saw" that Kirby Smart has a lot of positives and I view him as a Will Muschamp. He is young and vigorous and has been in a winning program. He is very capable on defense and will likely keep intact all our 4 and 5 star defensive recruits who we desperately need as our future core. He will cause a mini meltdown at Alabama if we hire him
and likely will not coach their championship game
. I see Smart as embodying the new energy we need to rehabilitate and succeed. I see that Pat Dye is maybe not all that crazy after all. I am feeling good. That said, if we hire Chad Morris I will completely
. I am still heartbroken about my man BP but I see his situation is untenable here and Kirby is the best of the rest and won't it feel good that we didn't hire Chad or Gus.

Well said... I was actually pulling for someone other than BP but the other points are still relevant!
When his name first started showing up last Sunday/Monday I was kinda underwhelmed...but as I thought about it I have to admit I see a lot more good than bad. Heck, I really don't see any bad at all.
My first choices were Stoops, Patterson or Strong. Two of those choices are probably not realistic and would be very, very expensive. And now it looks like Louisville has decided they are one of the big boys and are willing to pay Strong to stay in place. I hope UT gets in a big bidding war over him.
So taking Smart now, because I'm assuming Saban will retire or head to the NFL soon is probably the best option. Your getting a taller, younger Saban as Saban heads out the door of his college coaching career. This preempts the turds in being able to replace him with their most obvious choice.
Actually looking like a really Smart decision.
