War Damn Eagle!!!
This is spot on!!! Kudos for bringing Mike's great perspective to us. Thanks Phillip
I appreciate the theme, but it's shortsighted. Auburn and its supporters should not sit idly by as its enemies use the local, state, and national media to do damage to it. Make no mistake, negative recruiting on that scale has an affect on the personnel that ultimately make up the team over the years. Negative recruiting on that scale affects the bottom line in many ways. It is past the time for Auburn to loudly defend itself. I am proud of Jay Jacobs and Coach Chizik for doing so in reaction to the latest smear campaign against "us". It needs to go beyond that, though. Auburn needs to market itself positively on a grand scale. It also needs to punch back from time to time.

Don''t often raise my head when an absolutely great column apears hee but I now must. Never in my years has there been a time when words wee needed to put perspective in the air. Never has here bveen a time when truer words came fom a very special talent. Thank yuu very much phillip for bringing this to us.
This article help to reduce my anger toward the media, and I appreciate that. I was beginning to get as nasty as a BAMMER. God forbid.
I agree with POMM we need to be sending a positive message about Auburn because we know it is a great University with great tradition. And, we don't need to let others define us. War Eagle!!!
This will become harder to do with the SEC/ESPN marriage... lets just hope that it helps slow down the assault due to mutual interest
People of Selena Roberts ilk literally hate those who espouse “family” and “family values” – those ideas are an anathema to them. Link below is very revealing as to where she (and maybe others) are coming from in their vitriolic attacks on certain people and institutions.
Mike is "so right Carl" in his take on the haters!
I would agree with your position on this important topic. Auburn could do a lot more about their "message" both public and private.
The answer to shoddy reporting is to punch back with facts.
With regard to ESPN, they have too many "talking heads" and experts without information and too little to do that the competition for "space" amongst them must be frenetic and not very professional.
Herm Edwards is one of those heads who will say anything about anyone and why he was asked to comment on Auburn is beyond me, unless it was a shot from the hip to stimulate sales or promote the brand which are part of the the bottom line.
As part of the entertainment industry, ESPN plays to the "gossip" angle and conspiracy theories of instant journalism. As a "leader" in the field, others mimic their approach, unfortunately.
I'd like to see a competent competitor in this venue which would be able to balance the field a bit.
