Michael Dyer thoughts

  • Several months ago when Dyer was released from AU and decided to head to Arkansas St with Malzahn I think there were many that were surprised and others thought why wouldn't Malzahn take a high caliber running back? I saw both sides. I have since changed my mind and now have a very strong opinion. During the Goodwin trial, it was very clear to most everyone that Michael Dyer was not a player with high morals and character. I think we were all disappointed at his behavior in the courtoom and the things that were brought out in the trial of things that he did not only on the night of the robbery, but also in his daily life. What I found to be most significant was his sense of entitlement and continued lack of remorse. In my opinion, he is the same today as he was then - and that is not a good thing.. This was a player that was very recently released from Auburn. One would expect that Chizik and Malzahn both would have given him a "come to Jesus" speech when they released him - and I imagine it wasn't the first one of those that he received from his coaches during his time at AU. Months have since passed and to think he has the wherewithall to conduct himself in that courtroom the way he did says all I need to know about how much he has grown up and learned from his mistakes - none, nada, zilch. I am completely mystified that Malzahn, a man of faith and character, would welcome an individual with those kinds of traits onto his team. I don't care what kind of talent he has. At some point in time, character should matter. He clearly is every bit as arrogant today as he was when he did the things that resulted in his release from AU and has clearly not changed. Yes i get the idea that Malzahn may hope he can change Dyer, but that seems like a farfetched idea after what I read and heard about his testimony these last 2 weeks. I cannot imagine he is behaving any different in Arkansas as he was in Auburn - otherwise, we would have seen a different attitude take the stand. I'm not suggesting people cannot change. Usually when they do it is because they hit rock bottom and finally decided they had to change. If being released from Auburn didn't serve as that kind of wake up call, I doubt anything will.

Not going to disagree with anything you said, but Malzahn knows that Dyer will make it that much easier to win at Arkansas St. and that is the name of the game. You won't find media and message boards stirring up Michael Dyer rumors at ASU so it may not even be an issue to Malzahn as long as MD performs on the field and doesn't get arrested.

  • Thoughts about michael dyer? I don't have any. He does not play for Auburn. He is going to play in obscurity in the sunbelt conference. My thoughts are reserved for people that play at Auburn.

  • I remember reading that Cam had the greatest impact on keeping MD's ego/behavior in check in 2010. Very ironic that the portrayed villain of our team (by everyone except Auburn fans), actually had a positive influence on MD. It is truly a shame for Michael that he could not see how Cam was able to turn the page on his mistakes, and do the right thing as a person. But who knows, maybe we all want to see the good in Auburn players, and we really have a flawed perception of our athletes as opposed to how they really are. shrug

I for one hope that these kids will learn from the mistakes of others instead of having to learn by making the same mistakes themselves.

  • You question Malzahn's decision to take Dyer with him and stat his faith ( as in his faith in Christ) should deter him from doing so. Do you question Christ's faith to allow a murderer and thieves to follow Him and his acceptance of a prostitute into His circle? According to yor argument those are not very Christlike decisions and Christ should be ashamed of Himself. Because of this flawed logic, the rest of your entire argument/opinion is worthless. Think whatever you want but Malzahn and Chizik did everything that they could as Christian men to help Dyer, even if it may have also helped them to win a few extra football games. Maybe the Lord kept Dyer out of just enough trouble to allow him to stay on the team as a reward for the Christian men and women that we have in our AD. I don't know one way or the other but I do know that I'm not going to question Malzahn and Chizik's faith based on doing the very thing that Christ, Himself, did. I'm not disputing any facts that you may or may not have stated, just your logic on the decision to allow a bad kid to hang around and how a man of Christian faith shouldn't do such a terrible, sinful thing.

Never once did I question Malzahn or Chizik's faith or their Christianity. I merely stated that because Malzahn IS a man of faith that I was very surprised that he was willing to bring what appears to be such a bad influence with him to Arkansas. Dyer will come into Ark St as top dog - he was MVP of the BCS as a freshman for crying out loud. He will be looked up to by those other players if for no other reason than for his accomplsihments while at AU. I am surprised that Malzahn would have wanted a guy who clearly has demonstrated character issues knowing that person would be looked up by the rest of the team. Typically, you want your leaders to exemplify traits that you want the other players to mimic - which is the definition of a leader. Please don't twist my words into suggesting that my post exhibited an un-Christlike perspective or that I questioned Malzahn or Chizik's faith. That is just flat not true. Reread the post if you still think so. I absolutely believe Chizik is a man of faith and he clearly didn't want Dyer near his program. I would have thought Malzahn would have felt similarly. Just because he didn't doesn't mean I am questioning his faith. I for one was shocked with all that came out in the trial and it really caused me to wonder why Malzahn was ok bringing him with him. He obviously could have helped Chizik win too, but Chizik clearly didn't want him.
