Phillip, I have to believe that you are shaking your head when you're driving home after every Auburn sporting event you cover and wonder what has become of our once-proud athletic program. I know, fundamentally, you must love what you do, but I do feel sorry that you have to experience this level of ineptitude no matter what Auburn sport it is these days. I have the luxury of paying attention to other things to escape the misery, but you're heavily invested in this gig. It reminds me of the old Godfather II line "This is the business we've chosen!" So here is my question you have a pitcher that breezes through the 8th inning throwing only 10 pitches and you don't pitch him in the 9th? Why?

The same guy that lost a routine popup in the lights did not cover first on twice when a routine, double-play grounder was hit to the first baseman. The shortstop had no one to throw to on first. In one of those innings instead of having the bases empty they went on to score 4 runs.
Same as last year and previous years. It is all about coaching the fundamentals of the game. It does not take talent to play the fundamentals. Just like a week of so back on a routine single to right field when the right fielder threw to the second baseman as the cut off man, the shortstop did not cover second. So the runner took second.
