You seem like an intelligent, rational person. I think it is entirely reasonable that a young person can make rational posts. Most, however, do not...IMO.

Besides, wouldn't you find it interesting to see a 70 year old conversing with a 20 year old on a message board? Maybe it's just me, but I would.

Have you seen some of the posts by older members?

If you want a 70 year old talking to a 20 year old then see Proud talking to myself or some of the even younger NWO people, happens quite often. It doesn't really take a whole lot to figure out the general ages of many posters on here, though there are certainly exceptions.

  • 1) Before this season is over I'll turn 64.
    2) There are some folks on here in their 20s whose posts are highly respected by me and I value their evaluations. Then again there are a few in that age group whom I have learned to ignore as their mouth is bigger than their football knowledge.
    3) Repeat paragraph 2 replacing the 20 with a 30.
    4) Repeat paragraph 2 replacing the 20 with a 40.
    5) Repeat paragraph 2 replacing the 20 with a 50.
    6) Now sadly repeat paragraph 2 replaceing "in their 20s" with "over 60".
I find age has little to do with knowledge of sports. To be athoritative on sports just requires one to be a lover of the sport, have a knowledge of the sport, and most important, have a great deal of common sense.

I really wish the board would list the age of the person who makes a post. For me, it would shed some light on how to respond or how credible a poster may or may not be. I dont post a lot, but I read the boards often and will chime in if I think I have something to add. Somehow, though, I just dont feel like engaging what may be a teenager that needs to be talked down off the ledge. Maybe it's just me, but knowing a person's age completely changes the color of a posted remark. In fact, all message boards on all sites would be far better off if this was a visible component of a post.

    Thoughts?

I don't think it's the age of the person, it's the intentions of the poster. I've come to realize, in reflection, that all the name calling and attacks on individual coaches and players come from outside the Auburn family. Auburn fans can be critical and have differing opinions have absolutely every right to do so but you can tell the difference between AU fans and trolls by the tone and content of their posts. The only reason I can think of them being so involved on this board is because they know that we're building towards a program that consistently contends for the national title and it scares the crap out of them. In Mr. T's language, "I pity the fool"(s) - NOT.

I don't know... Talking a teenager "off the ledge" may be one thing when you could see "19 yrs old"... But when you see some dude and it says "43 yrs old" and he's berating KF or some other 18-22 year old kid about how he did during a GAME... That'll be just sad...

Then again, maybe it'll make those people think twice about what they post...

Oh, and FYI, I turned 30 today (Sept. 4)... WDE
