Sabans first year HC at a decent school michigan state he went 1995 record 6–5–1 (4–3–1 Big Ten) followed by what you clearly consider an underwhelming 2000 record as LSU's HC 8–4 (5–3 SEC)

I don't like saban, never will but that is the nations top coach and in his first few hc jobs he wasn't all that great.
