    It's not that there is anything wrong with Gus. He is a typical Auburn hire. The problem is that Auburn just doesn't believe we are a big enough program to go out and hire the best coach in the country. Honestly, If Gus can keep his wife from embarrassing us he will probably be fine.

    agreed. we have opportunity to swing for fences and instead pop up in in the infield. jay jacobs doesn't have enough weight to garner the attention of the bigger names. I'm ALL IN, but not looking forward the return of the Dyer-Cat, and shotgun formations on 4th and inches. Also I really wonder if he can develop a QB. With the exception of us landing a quick fix with Cam, not impressed with the QB play. Will he show favoritism for Kiehl over Wallace. Gosh I hope not.... Wallace is a gamer.

  • In the same day and time that Arkansas steals the Wisconsin HC, Auburn couldn't score much more than a couple Coordinators. I like Gus, but he is not what Auburn needs right now. Our program is in ruins. We needed someone with some clout, experience and a face for our program.

    As other schools in this prestigious and dominant conference make splashes, we barely made a ripple.

    All in also, but you clearly expressed some of the same things others of us noticed when the Gus bus stalled.

    My take FWIW……..I will support Gus and whatever staff members he hires. I hope he surprises me and does a fantastic job. I felt all along we needed new blood to come in without preconceived opinions (both for coaches and players). Jacobs and Gouge on the other hand will never get support from me as long as they are associated with AU. This was a status quo hire for them and I will tell anyone who will listen that these two guys are complete BOOBS and need to be FIRED!!

    I'm with you there completely. Honestly, I'm having a hard time continuing to support the athletic program as a whole because Jay Jacobs is still there. I'll still follow Auburn, but I know for sure that we could be so much better in every phase with an actually competent AD. This is exactly the hire we could have expected from Jacobs when you think about it.

    Four of our last six HCs have had perfect seasons. Five have had at least one arguable MNC. Please list the names of other programs who have done better with their last six hires. Pop ups?

    Those of you who are "finished, done, etc." please quit posting now and go to your new team. Its one thing to have a fairly informed opinion of who would be best but to call names and "quit" being a fan is totally different.

    You are now officially a troll and you aren't needed here. I am a fan of Auburn University football and Gus Malzahn is Auburn's coach. If you can't deal with that, pick up your parting gift and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

    Just thought I would repost this since we're up to 17 pages now and I'd hate for some people to miss out on a good post weagle

    I am fairly certain that is who is going to be our next DC. If it is, then you have all the evidence you need. The part I hate the most is that now I have to question the motives in hiring somebody like Gus Malzahn and from there Tracy Rocker. I love Auburn and I always will.

  • I called Sports Call, the day after Gene was fired, and passionately opined that Gus should be our next coach. The next day I heard " the shadow"(with whom I had never agreed with previously) verbalize the same sentiments. I did not back off in expressing my opinion to anyone who would listen. I was SO excited when I heard the news today!
    AU IS ON THE WAY BACK to the mountain top. TigerMan.

  • The problem is "why are we left with hiring one of two coordinators?" Gus is a safety hire. He may be fine, he may not be. If you are going to bash people on this board that have an opinion then what is the purpose of the board? Arkansas did not use "the good ol boy network" and they landed a hire far superior and unexpected to ours. Were we trying to save on gas or something? Gus's offense also become very predictable and Arkansas for one took it apart when we traveled up there to play. I for one can't wait to see the "huddle- pass- the- ball- around and let the guy run out of the circle again. I was always in awe of that genius. j/k

    Oh and it looks like Strong is the Tenn frontrunner? So both SEC schools outsmarted our AD and prez.

    Exactly! I believe one of the infamous bp supporters "suggested" that once "he" started winning games, we would all be jumping back on the bandwagon cheering for him just like we supported him all along. Well, back atcha.

    I suggest those that think the sky has fallen, that Auburn is a bunch of "loser", that absolutely no one at AU is competent, etc., etc., take a break from the boards, go find a new hobby, read a book, cut down a tree, do something other than come here throw up all over those of us who are happy with the hire and are looking forward rather than backwards. Just give us a little break.

    We've had so much negativity surrounding our program and us for the last 4 months, I just want a change to sit back and think about the opportunities ahead, the chance for new beginnings, the start of a new era full of possibilities. Sure, there are a lot of unknowns and it could all go to hell in a handbasket but I refuse to dwell on what MIGHT go wrong and focus on what could happen if everything goes right.

    Last of all, I'm ready to get EXCITED about Auburn football again. The anticipation is back! Bring on recruiting, bring on spring training, bring on fall workouts, bring on AU Football!!!!!

    Chris Todd was Malzahns first year, followed by Cam, he had the reigns ripped from him in his offensive scheme in 2011 and now he's back in the saddle again.

    People forget that when we hired CGC as OC he was already considered an up and comer and rising star. He proved to be that and more.

    I'm not sure what you are talking about. Gus has won everywhere he's been. He was Instrumental in us wining a NC in 2010. He takes a head coaching job and wins the conference title in his first year. He broke all kinds of conference records for offense everywhere. Why all the hate? Get behind a guy who has been a winner at every stop and let's get AU on top again. This is not just pointed at you but all the naysayers out there....everyone get on board, be positive, support Gus who has done nothing but win at Auburn and let's get our program back where it belongs....
