Making an early connection

Gus Malzahn first saw Kiehl Frazier as an 8th grader. Nearly five years later the star quarterback signed with Auburn.

  • Had Frazier enrolled early, I would think he had a real chance at winning the starting job as a true freshman...simply due to his size, talent level, and the fact that he already knows the system.

However, Trotter is a solid QB, and I don't see Frazier beating him out after only 2 weeks of practice...but ya never know.

Malzahn approves of NOW Boot Camp! Well...not really...but he would if he knew about it :) www.nowbootcamp.com.

  • I hope he RS. That will mean Trotter or Mosely has a solid year.

  • It would be tough road schedule for a true freshman this year. With a new OL and new WRs I will feel a little better with a guy like Trotter who has also been in Malzahn's system for a while and know all the plays and formations. I would like to see Trotter get a little bigger, but hey Montana played at under 200lbs.

  • In 5 years Gus has had 5 QB's. It'll be interesting to see what his offense could do if everyone had 2 to 3 years experience under their belts. The HUNHO can be hard to handle if you never substitute, but have a full package of plays. If Oregon had better Linemen and a big back, they might have scored a lot more than 19 on us. I think we'll spring some surprises this year.

I think if Frazier redshirts...That means we have a productive year team wise and QB wise...I beleive that would be a HUGE upside for team 2012 and Frazier physically/mentally..Put us in the serious hunt for Atlanta again!

If you have to ask why I love Auburn so much...never mind

  • Josh Floyd may be a replacem for CGM when the time comes?? Him or the coach that went to Sanford.?? Any thoughts??

  • I think he's starts the very first game next year in my opinion.
Remember how close Tyrik Rollison was to being the #1 guy? KF is leaps and bounds further along then then Rollison. I like Trotter but he has had trouble finishing games even in backup duty.

I wouldn't expect Chizik to target Floyd as potential replacement for Malzahn. There are four offensive coaches at Auburn that are about to work for a third year under Malzahn, which is more than anyone at the college level.

Rhett Lashlee will certainly be a candidate to return to Auburn. Not sure if it would be as an OC. Perhaps as a QB coach if Chizik promotes from within.

Really hard to predict what will happen but you can be assured that Chizik has a plan. It's only a matter of time before the right head coaching position comes available for Malzahn.

I'm wondering if coach Luper may step up as he's been the one directly connected to CGM on the sideline the last couple of years. Bringing back the young man from Samford to replace Luper as the eyes in the box? Just a thought....

Auburn people feel a deep and passionate responsibility to uphold standards not written on paper, but lived from the heart.

  • If Trotter and Moseley are reading this as I do, they are hitching up their jocks and saying, "over my dead body." He may start someday, but when he does it will be because he beat out some pretty fine young men. As Malzahn infers, Moseley and Trotter may have the vets respect, and that is meaningful. But, I don't doubt for a minute that Frazer is a maybe twice in a lifetime talent. And I don't doubt, as hs been said already, Auburn could get to Atlanta in 2011. Looking forward to development this fall.

  • Let's all remember that KF started 3 years in high school and won 3 state championships. That tells me one thing about this young man, He is a winner. Never under estimate someone that has the it factor. If he comes in and works hard, I would not be suprised to see him see playing time early and possibly take over the starting spot later in the season. I really liked what I have seen so far out of Trotter, think he could be a solid guy with passes on target. With him, I have a nagging fear that he may re-injur the knee.

  • I get the impression that some are packing for Atlanta in '11! We should have a good solid team, but I'm not that optimistic. '2012 - maybe! WAR EAGLE, regardless!!

Rhett Lashlee is a clear leader over Josh Floyd for the QB coach position when Malzahn leaves. Taylor and/or Luper are the most likely candidates for the offensive coordinator position. Both have been learning the Malzahn system and Malzahn has been willing to share/tudor his system. Given the availability of Lashlee; the instruction that the entire offensive coaching staff has received from Malzahn; and the fact that we have recruited players for that system--the Malzahn offense will continue at Auburn well beyond Malzahn's eventual departure.
