  • PM, good article. I would have the following questions and observations:

    1. Coach B is suddenly sounding a lot like CGC did last year. That is worrisome when the coach indicates he does not have an answer. Then who does?
    2. Does the BB team use the same trainer as the FB program? Seems they are tiring throughout games like the FB team did last year.
    3. I am surprised that recruiting has not picked up more. 2 big men for next year but have to get a couple REAL top point guards in play. With more time than the FB coaches to recruit during the year just seems we should be landing some of the top gets.
    4. Why would AU not consider bringing in CHuck P. as an assistant asap. He could help recruiting much the same way Coach G and Coach Craig have already as they have shown having a AU pedigree along with the ability makes them top reruiters for AU. The added benefit might be if Coach B. again fails next year, you would have a person to possibly elevate to the position.

Just thinking a bit out loud. So want the BB team to get back on the right track! WDE

  • So, people are having to finally come to the conclusion that where rubber meets the road, there is a severe lack of traction. That article sums up what I've been saying for awhile. It's heartbreaking the shape we are in. What we don't want to hear are excuses, and that's exactly what we are starting to hear. Yes, Chiz2O! What an overall mess. The basketball coach needs to be fired, problem is, we don't want the AD hiring one more person. Sooo, the AD needs to be fired, problem is, we don't wont the Pres hiring another AD. Soo, run the Pres into early retirement, or fire him. Hire a Pres that wants academics first, but understands and accepts the importance of athletics. He should hire the AD and the new AD should clean house. Or, we can keep losing.

  • Highly recruited class well lets see, we have players avg. at 5.5,5.2,3.3 and 3.0 pts. per game.

  • I've missed only 2 home games this year and a similar number the previous two years. I want to give Barbee at least one more year. IMO, early on, he took some chances he should not have while attempting a quick fix. Now, he appears to be building a solid foundation as we do have a core of young talent and some promising prospects on the way. The newcomers do not have the scoring averages we would like but, early in the season, their playing time was limited when we were still playing for something. I am not saying the "glass" is anywhere near full but I do see it as "half full." Let's go support the team (players and coaches) tonight vs. TAMU. We never know when our attendance, or lack thereof, might affect future recruiting... WDE!

  • "because it's getting to a point that it's getting redundant and embarrassing after every game,” Sullivan said.

    At least somebody gets it!

  • Where is the talent that will take this team forward? It's not there. Price? Whom Barbee called the best of his recruits? He may turn into a solid shooter. Shaq is a project with potential. I would say it will only get worse, but there isn't much room to fall from here. We haven't upgraded anything. Here come more excuses!

  • Wait till next year! That is what Bama fans use to say to make fun of Auburn during the nine game streak.

That is now the mantra for all Auburn sports. I do think Auburn athletics is at it's lowest point ever, when you look at final standings in the big three or four.

Somebody needs to take action! The student newspaper has started the process.

  • OK, lemme get ths right. To fix the basketball program, the President must be fired, the AD, as well as the coach. A new coach has to be hired. Would some think that a bit extreme? Maybe recruiting a good class and waiting for them to develope would do. No? Pshaw!

  • While CTB had some swings & misses in his 1st class (Kemp & Cothron), he still has not signed anything resembling a tough rebounding inside presence.

It looks like we have some size in the 2013, but they also look like projects. Unless we somehow find a JUCO big man who can step in right away, it looks like the 2013-14 team will be full of swing men and no rebounders. I do like the potential it appears we have in Price, Shaq, and Greene. Harrell might even be a good transfer. I am just worried that there is a more than significant chance that we will have not have a player over 6-6 who will be ready for significant minutes.

  • If anything, we have to show patience in basketball. Why the heck not? The pressure is not as 'on' as it is in football.

Back when I was in school, Coach Ellis asked for 5 years. After 4 years of flirting with the NIT we finally broke through with 29-4.

I want a basketball team to root for too. But simply crowing that everyone needs to be fired isn't a sign of anything but short vision and temper.

Give Coach Barbee time to get some recruits in and make some progress.

  • How long did it take Pearl to "fix" Tn?

Today is a great day to love Auburn, a little better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

  • I think we need to have an exorcism at the new arena. Those demons need to go. We lost the first game ever played there against some crappy team and it has been bad juju since.

The added benefit might be if Coach B. again fails next year, you would have a person to possibly elevate to the position.

    1. Agreed

    2. If I'm not mistaken, BB and FB both trained under Yoxall, as he was the S&C coach for Auburn Athletics. I'm not sure if it's the same way now.

    3. Although Auburn has several decent looking players committed, the top gets, especially PG's, are not considering Auburn because we can't really get into the AAU circuit like other schools. This is a MAJOR obstacle in BB recruiting because Auburn is not Duke, Michigan, UConn, UCLA, UNC, Georgetown, etc. A "football school" like Auburn HAS to be in front of top recruits and we just don't have the exposure.

    4. Chuck Person has been a high-level assistant on championship Lakers teams. He is not even going to take the phone call unless it's about a lucrative HC offer. I doubt he would even come to college, but if he did, it certainly wouldn't be as an assistant. I would sure love it if he did though...

  • 1. You keep looking for an answer.

    2. No, but there's no indication that tiring late in games is a part of the problem.

    3. Problem with recruiting, before this team's newcomers, is that they haven't stayed. This class was Barbee's best. He says next year's is good, too. We'll see. Hard to land the "top gets" when you haven't been to the NCAA Tournament in 10 years.

    4. Chuck wanted to be the head coach. He wouldn't be interested in coming as an assistant.. He's also never coached in college or recruited a player. Barbee's contract gives him control over hiring assistants.

  • I read this article and I just shake my head. How long will we have to endure excuses about why we can't get the talent or can't win in this league or . . . . . you fill in the blank. Let's face it, our bball program has had no successful leadership in more than a decade. If there is a plan to actually make it work, I haven't seen or heard it. It is just hard to watch game after game and see the same problems with the same results and still stay engaged. Auburn deserves better than we are getting from this team and I think the problem starts at the top. I don't see any significant change coming to this program until we get serious about leadership in the HC position. Just one fan's opinion.

  • I wrote my reply, hit the wrong button, I guess, so I'll try again and be briefer. I feel the ARK game started our downslide and was the game that dampened our enthusiasm, not the KY game as stated by BM. We missed MANY free throws during the game and with the team knowing just one FT would have prevented OT and won the game, would have been a good road win and put us 3-0 in conf., they had to be deflated. I watched on TV and I"M still deflated from that one. I bet if a poll could be taken most of the fans would say the ARK game was the most depressing, not the KY game. WE gave one away. I don't recall our FT pct. that day but wasn't it around 50%? Just ONE FT and it's a Win. If I was a player that day, and I played high school basketball, I can assure that's the kind of game I wouldn't get over.
