Keith, you seem to really like Jordan. Thanks for taking the time to give us some first-hand knowledge. Your opinion and analysis of him is sure to add to the excitement and anticipation of having him play for AU.

Do you think he is currently evaluated in the right spot or do you believe he moves up or down after his senior year?

    Thanks again.

I think it's certainly possible he could move up ... lot will depend on senior film and All-Star showings IMO

  • Thanks for the thread. Also, good piece in the article BM posted. Now for my question: How would you rate his blocking ability and pass protection?

Can't say. Two areas where we have limited info

A lot of people in this business simply haven't seen him in person and Nobody has really seen him play in person. Even me -- I've seen him at Ole Miss Camp and at a Rivals camp.

Competition isn't great. So I think people may be a little hesitant to go crazy over him. But look at the offers. Impressive.

I really just think people need to see more of him. And as I said, getting into a postseason All-Star game could certainly help. Best v. Best ... in pads.

I'm glad he committed and hope that he turns out to be a great RB at AU. But, due to your comments above, how did he get four star status when he hasn't had much exposure? I asked Bryan this very question yesterday in a post about players getting four & five star status. Just seems some recruiting services don't do their due diligence and instead say.....well, the player's been offered by TN, UVA, UGA, etc...and he must be a four star...

    This is easy to answer:

We have film of him, and his film is very good. Watch it, if you haven't yet. It has 4-star film written all over it.

What I've said is IF there is a reason he isn't ranked higher it MIGHT be because not many people have seen him person.
He did not attend the Nike Camp in Memphis. And most people haven't been to a game of his.

I'm lucky. I've seen him twice in camps.

You have come to your own conclusion that "recruiting services don't do their due diligence" ... not sure what basis you have for that, but it is your opinion. I, however, disagree with you.

First and foremost, film is the No. 1 thing for evaluation. We have the film. So does everybody else.

Hope that clears it up a little

    Thanks Keith.
To qualify what I actually said was "just seems SOME recruiting services", not all. You've got to agree that SOME do not......

SO the opposite is true for guys like OJ Howard since he plays against 5'6" white kids who run 4.9 40's at most in the AISA.

Kid is good but plays garbage competition in HS.

No offense to anyone with a son who is white, 5'6", runs a 4.9 40, and plays AISA.

OJ Howard has excellent film, and people have seen him at the 1. Rivals/Alabama camp 2. Nike Opening 3. Rivals 5-star Challenge. That means people have been able to look him over more and more. And he has been impressive at every stop. Plus, he has an incredibly heigh ceiling, and is a high character kid.

Jordan was at the Rivals/Alabama camp, but folks from other sites were not allowed to attend. So his exposure has been somewhat limited.

OJ rose the same way Carl Lawson did ... thru great offseason performances

I don't know if he should be a 5 star but he should be close at the very least. He is a 6'5 220lb guy running a 4.49 with great hands... That's a high four star at least. He is also extremely athletic for that size too. I don't believe in ranking a TE in the top 20 unless they have Vernan Davis numbers but OJ is very very good. I would only argue the fact that not many TEs ever go in the top 10-15 picks of the draft.

Offseason for a DE is versus blocking OL. TEs should also be blocking but only run routes against primarily linebackers. Not an accurate way to test them. Oranges to apples to compare to Carl Lawson who has tape against big school major competition. Let Howard try to block those same linebackers and we shall see who is a 5-star. He'll be seeing 5-stars - those ones standing on his chest. At least rank him as an athlete where he could hold onto 3-star status. I'm the same guy that has said Darrion Hutcherson who I know personally was vastly overrated.

Perhaps. But I think OJ has more of a prototypical NFL body.

Dont go Mel Kiper on me lol. Isn't Lawsons wingspan above average?

  • I'm a little late to the party, but I'll ask my question anyways...
If YOU were ranking the RBs in this class, where would you have JW?

Do you guys add in the who are you playing against factor?

DGB last year really made me think after that game on ESPN...

It CAN be a factor, sure. Sometimes though, it's pretty obvious what a kid can or can't do.
I know Carl plays better comp than OJ ... but have you seen OJ in person? I have multiple times. And I have seen Carl multiple times. If Auburn were to land OJ, I'm pretty sure you'd be pretty happy. NFL body all the way. Arguably the best body of any single player in the entire class, related to his position.

Anyway, I'm beating a dead horse. ... Later friends
