Let's hope Auburn has learned lesson of Lowder era

  • Let's hope Auburn has learned lesson of Lowder era (Herndon)

Bobby Lowder spent thousands of dollars in the form of campaign contributions to stay on Auburn's board of trustees for nearly three decades. He once even filed a lawsuit to block then-Gov. Fob James' attempts to remove him.

  • I look forward to the improvements these blowhard biased media clowns are going to bring to Auburn now, not to mention the millions of dollars in donations.

The future is so bright, we're going to need shades.

  • No school has ever been run like a dictatorship any more than the turd school!!! We never hear about that. Bear himself once told EVERYONE, there are only two opinions that matter at The univ of Ala, Mary Harmans, and myself! Dead serious as he could be! Since the day he died, cub has had more influence over the turds than Bobby had over Auburn, and Bobby has alot! It will always be Auburn against the nation, led by turds! All we have and need are The School, The Town, our Alumni, and fans! Everyone else can kiss our ---!!!!!!!

  • I just don't understand why he won't continue to donate a lot of money. They way I see it, if he really loves AU and it wasnt about the power then he will continue to give money but let others make the decisions of where it will be spent.

  • Bobby Lowder is the most mis understood figure in college football. In his place, if it was my money I'd have a say so too. The biggest complaint about him stems from the fact that the entire SEC wanted the Barfield Years to go on forever, he put an end to that and brought in Dye, the rest is history.

  • OMG. Just when I thought its safe to enjoy the NC, you had to mention Barfield.

  • It's funny, the Phil Knights, T Boone Pickets, PBJ's of the world get a pass. Pat Dye said it best, nobody loves us and nobody wants to see us do well but ourselves. Every fan base has an "image" in their minds of where and what they are, UA, LSU, UGA, UF and the rest can't be what they claim to be if Auburn's able to compete. Bobby Lowder did what he could to put Auburn on a level with those schools and they hate him for it.

  • I have always admired what he has done for AU. I just look at it the way that FSU and Penn St people view Bowden and JoePa. They are very thankful for all that he has done but are eager to move forward with new blood

  • We'll see if this was some sort of palace coup and there is another player going to step up. Or we'll see how Auburn thrives without a strong leader.

If Auburn University has only produced one strong leader in all these years then we are not the school that I thought we were.

  • The lesson from the Lowder era? When Auburn fell on hard times in the eighties, there was a man that led recovery. His name was Bobby Lowder. Recovery sometimes takes more than nice. And what is difficult is ofen found with mistakes. Apollo lost lives. So did Shuttle. In fact, some held their breaths until SRM burnout and the will hold their breaths until the last Shuttle sucessfully passes re-entry. I seem to remember lives liost in accidents on the Bay Bridge sites. If you think Lowder wasn't nice in re-building Auburn, don't read the history of how some very importent things got built in these United States-things that have provided us with comforts that we aren't willing to do without. Some men thought of as ruthless consumate thieves have built great universities, and founded libraries through out the world. In there time they were called most anything but nice. There are lessons to be learned in the Lowder era, in fact, lessons are learned until we are too infirm to learn. And sometimes they are way more than we think they are. Thinking about the Lowder era might be one of those times.

I agree with everything you have said in the BL posts AU49. You are "spot on" in your assessment of BL.
