Less than two years removed from title, Chizik is on thin ice

  • Gene Chizik's Auburn job in jeopardy despite hisBCS title - Cary Estes - SI.com

When tens of thousands of Auburn fans made the cross-country trek to Arizona in January 2011, they could have sworn they saw the Tigers win their first national championship in more than half a century. They are sure they watched coach Gene Chizik lift the crystal football trophy signifying Auburn's status as the BCS champion and let out an enthusiastic cry of as they departed University of Phoenix Stadium.

  • "It's somewhat amazing for a coach who brought Auburn its first national title in 53 years, but Chizik's job is in serious jeopardy. Chizik has been a head coach for approximately five and half seasons, two at Iowa State and the past three-plus at Auburn. His record during that time when he has had someone other than Cam Newton at quarterback: 22-33."

Your counting years spent at Iowa State which was flat when he came in and was just beginning to be a bit respected when he left. You also discount, heck fail to count, Cam's year, a year when with team curcumstances worse than 2010 he won eight games. It is absolutely true. Statistics don't lie. But statisticians have been known to iie. Sports Illustrated is a strange place to get a sense of where Auburn is going. And it is strange that AUC would re-report one of their writers. All that does is allow the hurt to Auburn's football program under a guise of,. hey I didn't say it. They did. Typical jouirnalism when we have granted and their main writers have earned the position of much higher than typical.
