It's almost like getting a clone. By now they've had thousands of reps together, if Rhett doesn't know this offense no one does.

I'm not so sure it'll take that long with the defense. What they need most is a change of attitude. We've got over half a dozen DE's, 4 DT's and quite a few DB's who've played. Depth at LB maybe an issue, but we can adjust. If you give young men a sense of direction they'll succeed, I've never seen it fail.

The good thing is CEJ only uses 2 LBs in his scheme

The idea that Rhett's supreme knowledge of Malzahn's offense is automatically going to translate to wins in the SEC escapes me. He isn't going to be throwing the passes, blocking defensive linemen or running the football. New Mexico State surely knew their offense, right? How did that work out for them? You have to get offensive talent to execute the scheme that is commensurate with the quality of defensive talent they will compete against. When that talent is more or less equal, he will have to be able to outwit defensive coordinators that are more experienced. Look, I hope the guy hangs the moon but his knowledge of the offense is about the only advantage he will have in this league.

Well I guess we are doomed to a 3-9 season next year Oh wait that was this year.

  • I have followed Rhett since his time at Samford and he was a tireless recruiter. He help bring some talent into that program that paid off this year. He is a good hire and will make a significant impact on our AU offense.

  • I assume Lashlee will be ready, but I also imagine that Malzahn will actually take the reigns of the Offense.

  • Some of you sound like Gus is going to be gone while Rhett is running the offense all by himself...

I was kind of surprised that Gus even hired an OC. Some head coaches ARE the OC. I thought it couldn't have gone down any better, actually.

Give Rhett the hands-on experience as an OC, give him more responsibilities and therefore a greater incentive to produce.

If Gus had brought in an experienced OC who ran anything different than what Gus runs we may have had Chizik-gate all over again. Gus will sign off on the game plan each week. Don't think he won't be the man.

I can't wait for the spring game.

I can. The spring team will not have the effect of new, more demanding S & C coach and I hope to hell there is no relatonship between the spring and fall players attitude or execution. Attitude and xecution have been lacking and that's the reason Auburn has been getting the snot beat out of them for a couple of years. I would be surprised if that can change in the short time between now and the spring game. Between now and the Fall of the year? Yes!. And it would be neat if someone could report regularly about how things are changing for the better.

I agree. This is better than what I expected. I thought he would bring in someone that he could teach to run his offense, instead he brought in someone he has been teaching for years. If Chizic had brought in someone willing to learn his system on defence we may have had better defences the last four years. I think Gus has learned a lot from CGC's mistakes.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, they give 18-24 year old men weapons and have them prosecute war, led by folks not much older than themselves. I think a 29 year old who has been immersed in this offense for the last 7years can handle it.

I remember way back when I was in the Air Force. The question among us enlisted troops was "What is the difference in the Air Force and the Boy Scouts?" The answer was, "The Boy Scouts have adult leaders". Twenty nine is not too young for this job, He has the experience in spite of his age. I think I remember that when we played Samford while he was OC, he had a few wrinkles for us. I believe he will do fine. OPTIMISM Please!!
