LSU Tiger Stadium to push 100k....

  • I'm all for stadium expansion here at Auburn when the time comes, but as of right now I think it's in our best interest to just make the place look better and try to attain a more fan friendly experience. There is a multitude of ways to do that, be I'll let y'all debate on how to go about that sort of project. In the meantime, LSU is moving forward with plans to expand their stadium to nearly 100k.

Yeah, until Jordan-Hare sells out every homegame and has hoards of people stuck without tickets, I don't see the purpose of expansion. I like the idea of making it nicer, and I think if they bricked off some of the facing it would be nice.

The areas of concern for me are the concourses and concessions, put a skin over the dinosaur skeleton that is the west and north exterior sides of the stadium, and completely redoing the exterior of the players entrance and gate area on the south end. I would also be all about building a new pressbox over one of the endzones and renovating the old pressbox and turning it in to new suites for the super rich to donate more money to the school for. I dunno. We're getting left behind the other major SEC powers in stadium capacity. We are the smallest of the majors....

We really now are pretty much in the middle of the conference and at a place where nobody below us is very likely to surpass us. I suppose SC is the only threat there. Beyond that, MSU, UK, UM, VU and ARK are all significantly smaller venues.

I actually think that a modest expansion that honors the existing architecture, that focuses primarily on premium seating and increases the size of the stadium to about 94K. We'd be on par with UF and UGA at that point.

  • Extend the upper decks to cover the existing ramps, add suites (because there is a demand for those), and give me a north end HD jumbo tron to match the south end (the north end scoreboard is a dinosaur). I don't care about being the biggest, just the best!

  • I advocate essentially a third upper deck placed over the north endzone and modifying the student section and recruit areas.

I guess that is why I still so a lot of empty seats at JHS on MOST Saturdays. There are games that we could sell 150k, but most games have a number of empty seats, and this is on the heels of a NC.

That's what I'm screaming! The north end scoreboard is embarrassing, the size of the stadium is not.

Most of those are tickets that cannot be sold as season tickets due to the number of tickets we hold back for Alabama, LSU etc...

If you added 10k seats that could be sold as full season tickets... they would sell

I can remember the past two seasons, at every game, they were advertising season ticket books still for sell. Every week the price would drop by the cost of the previous week's ticket price. They are not selling all available tickets, and beleive me, I wish they were. As I understand it, there is a demand for luxury suites. I'm not sure how to add suites without adding regular seats, but if there were a way, that would be the wise way to spend my Tiger's Unlimited donation.

What does that matter? If you don't sell out a majority of your games, what's the point of expanding onto the stadium just so it will be bigger? Then you spend millions of dollars just to have more empty seats. It makes zero sense to expand just because other schools expand their stadium.

  • LSU stadium was a dump last time I was went.

I go along with improving the outside of the stadium on the north and south ends, adding upper deck with lots of luxury seats at the north end combined with decent eating places that all tie-into the new basketball arena / living area. Redo the adjacent roadway between the athletic dorm, baseball park and stadium to make special (pavers...) / build permanent concrete bleachers (six rows high?) in places for viewing. Add monuments / statues of players along the walkways to the stadium.

I remember thinking the same thing as a lot of you guys when the first first deck was built, then the second. We weren't selling out the stadium for most of those game prior to the expansions. I say build in an organized manner. Agree with johnsbr that now is the time to do it while labor / prices are down. The people will come.

  • Do we have enough room to put a structure between the stadium and the parking deck? That's where I would put a large building that would house a consession plaza, new player entrances, and on the top level a row of luxury suites. That would complete that endzone. In a perfect world we would build one on both ends and then brick the facade all the way around.

Every other year we sell out season tickets and could do it with a 150 thousand seat stadium. We didn't have a "build it and they will come mentality" before, we had a "we can sell out certain games quite easily" mentality. I watched Pat Dye, in the stadium, say we should have another deck in 2003. Stadium size corresponds with quality of recruits-at least according to the only scholarly paper done of the subject- and who cares if we have empty seats for some games? The games we have empty seats now aren't really bad and are somewhat close to capacity.
