Kirby Smart to be named AU head coach?

  • My father was called by a well known Birmingham sportscaster tonight asking him if he had heard that Kirby would be named our head coach Tuesday or Wednesday. Apparently Petrino lost support recently and the committee found out that there is more to the Petrino story that could surface. Apparently there are other women and tapes that could be realeased and the guys felt like it was too much of a risk for us to take. I wanted Petrino and still do but I will be curious to see what type of staff Kirby can hire and if we will see our recruiting on the defensive side stick. Other questions are if will we build to the 3-4 or start immediatly and go thru the growing pains by not having the talent to run it. Also could be interesting to see who our OC will be. It may be time to bet behind a Kirby Smart hire.

As of a short time ago, Kirby Smart did not have an offer from Auburn.

  • This is fun. Can I try?

Headline- Kirby smart knows where the bodies and the receipts are and will burn Saban down. Hence Saban will block Kirby to AU.

Is I that how you do itor is there a different method I should use?

No offense, but are you sure you'd know if an offer went out?

  • If we're hiring an assistant coach and giving him his big chance, I'd vote for Malzahn and hs NC at Auburn vs. Smart and his NCs at Bama.

  • Tapes? For real?

The FBI also has tapes of cam newton getting money.

Nobody cares what I think. But if they did, they'd hear how much I cant stomach Smart as the new coach. Another bow to satan. another bow to bammer.

Go hire a real coach from outside the satan tree. but no we just cant manage it. so go hire a sabandouche prodige. makes me want to puke, long and hard. God, I want to vomit just thinking about that guy being our coach.

This is business, not personal. Hiring Smart helps us and hurts them. It's a good move if Petrino/Fisher aren't available. I would've been down for Strong or Franklin too, but this is a good hire.

That's semantics. They can be negotiating terms and if the terms can't be negotiated then both parties can save face and walk away. Happens all the time in all forms of negotiations. For example, Auburn says to Jimmy Sexton "You know we'd want him to start right away if we can make this happen". Jimmy Sexton then says "I'm not sure if he'd be in position to do that with the BCS game around the corner". Auburn then says "Well, if that's how he feels, we may need to move on down the road". No formal offer but both parties knew they were doing the courting dance...

What is up with the HATE for Kirby Smart. He's the best assistant coach in the country and one of the best defensive coaches, HC or assistant.

Why would Malzahn be a good hire? Because he scores 45 points a game? Doesn't work if you give up 50.

Why do you think the SEC has won 7 straight championships? DEFENSE. Auburn in 2010 is the exception, due to a once in a lifetime Heisman winner.

Plus, I've been skeptical of Malzahn ever since he allowed Dyer to follow him to ASU. Our next coach needs to be hard nosed and lay down the law!

And no matter who is hired, I will always support Auburn University with my time and money!

In 2010 down the stretch it was a good AU defense, not great but not bad either. UAT gets 65 yds and 3 points in the second half of the IB, S Carolina is held to 17 total points in the SEC champ game and the Ducks were held to 19 points in the Natty. You make a good point but don't slam that 2010 AU defense too much they were actually very good against the run, just saying - WDE

Oh, totally agree. That D overachieved IMO. It was made up of a bunch of upper class guys (Bynes) with strong character. Those guys and the O-line were left by Tubbs though.

I was pointing out that the AU championship is the only one that was primarily an offensive team. The D stepped up big in big games, especially in the 4th quarter.

I think we need to go back to our roots. Hard nosed D and a down hill running game. Would hate to see 30 jet sweeps from the shotgun to a 180 lbs scat back in a Malzahn offense.
