This would be a smart hire for Auburn. Charlie Strong would be also. Time to start playing defense again on the plains, it's our only hope to compete with Bama or LSU.

Besides that Auburn has a history of hiring UGA grads, I don't get a Kirby Smart hire. He has never been a head coach. He runs a defense for a defensive-minded, hands-on head coach with the very best players in America that money can buy. We can do better than a young DC. And for those who keep mentioning Dye in comparison ... yes, Dye was an assistant at Bama, but he was then a head coach at East Carolina and at Wyoming before coming to AU.

What do you dislike about the 3-4 defense?

I mainly, I would rather have the defensive ends hand in the ground. To me that gives them better leverage when stopping the run IMO.

Kirby Smart would be a very good hire. I'm very excited about that prospect. I think some of the older generation Tiger fans won't go for it, but I certainly would. I'd love Charlie strong too. Either one of those guys, they'd be great hires. Man, Pete Carrol would've been the moon, though. I hate that it didn't happen. If we really did go after him, then we're really going for it this time. Just because he has said no so far doesn't mean his mind is incapable of changing. Many times in cases like these the person hired ends up being somebody the school pursued even after the candidate told them no.

I don't believe their is any chance SMART is even remotely a candidate for the AU job if it comes open. One reason if F-baum is talking about which means it supports a UAT agenda. Two how good would his future be if he defected to AU knowing how the Black Ops branch works at UAT. Three he is very aware how daddy satan will react if he leaves before getting the blessing. I not certain the AU network is refined enough to withstand the onslaught of attacks that will be unleashed if he defects. Think of the efforts already, trees and NCAA attack dogs would look like child's play. AU has got to get better in all phases quickly IMO..
