If we don't get a home run hire and decide to go with a young guy instead, I wouldn't mind seeing Kirby Smart. I think he's a great coach who will be a big time head coach somewhere before too long. I would want some big-time buyout language in his contract to prevent him from jumping ship to Alabama or Georgia when those jobs open.

The last time we hired a former assistant of a championship winning Alabama coach, it worked out pretty well for Auburn.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is Kirby putting his staff together. We would need a big name, proven OC. You'd have to figure he wouldn't keep any of Auburn's current staff, so we'd have to reassemble completely.

That being said, he'd be far from the top of my list. I think he should be on the list.

Kirby would be my first choice. He will be a better HC than Muschamp.He could pull together a great staff and recruit with the best of them. I think he would jump at the chance to coach the Tigers. If we don't hire him, we will regret it later when he is HC for another SEC school.
