I have never, ever understood not recruiting the juco ranks. For one thing, its easier to recruit because there are not massive amounts of jucos that have football teams and a little time spent establishing a network will make identifying prospects easier. There is a huge misnomer out there that programs place the top juco prospects and its a waste of time to go after planted recruits. That's absolutely false. Most planted juco guys are unmotivated and never pan out. The reason to recruit jucos harder are for the late bloomers that develop physically or for other reasons after high school. These guys are highly motivated and can become immediate superstars. This is why the NFL scours the small college ranks - late bloomers. It's interesting to me that two of the better dynasties in the NFL in my lifetime thrived off small college guys - the Pats and the Cowboys under JJ. I really hope Gus seeks that talent. And guess who recruits juco guys better than anybody today - our little adversary to the West.

The only meaningful definition of a 'generalist' is a specialist who can relate his own small area to the universe of knowledge.

Recruiting some of them to fit specific needs is fine. Recruiting a lot of them year after year leads to big trouble because your team turns over too fast. Plus, many of them didn't go to junior college because they were late bloomers but because they had issues which are likely to follow them.
