I really like all that I read about this staff and how they are on the same page, respectful of each other and trying to simplify the game for the players. Confusion slows down the ability to react and if you don't react quickly on defense it is usually quickly over.

Even as I post this I'm not at all sure that last year's staff didn't have a few guys who were close like coaches Johnson and Harbison. But IF they did I never heard one peep about it. That's not a 'knock' against Chizik's staff though, because relationships like the one detailed in this article are increasingly rare, regardless of the profession. I have no problem believing that our current players have picked up on that vibe and that must be comforting to them, especially following a year of unrest, rumored upheaval and division among the staff that the players had to live thru. I admit that when the name 'Ellis Johnson' was mentioned as the likely new DC not 24 hrs after Gus' initial press conference that I knew very little about the man. But for his association with Spurrier I would've known nothing at all. But he is an impressive guy when you learn kind of what he is all about. This man seems to be light years ahead of the most-recent duo to hold the DC title at Auburn. Our Defense is in good hands.

Gus gave his coordinators ownership in the program and it sure seems to have benefitted everyone involved. I am pumped, to say the least.
