***Jacobs said he recommended to President Jay Gogue that Gene Chizik not be retained as head coach this morning. He informed Coach Chizik that he would make that recommendation last night and of the decision this morning. He said Coach Chizik handled the decision with dignity and class and was thankful for the opportunity to lead the Auburn team for the past for years.

***Jacobs said his goal moving forward was doing the best for the student-athletes and football program. He said they couldn't risk waiting another year hoping for improvement.

***Jacobs said they will reach out to experts (search firms) in the hiring process.

***Jacobs said it's always difficult to fire somebody with the families that are involved but that's part of his job. He said he's grateful for what Gene Chizik has accomplished. He said he just regrets how it ended.

***Jacobs said it will be the new head coaches' decision on who he hires as assistants.

Really everyone calling Jacobs an idiot must feel a little silly hearing him articulate many of the reasons for firing Chizik that they claimed were problems he failed to grasp. Also, he said the Arkansas game was really the catalyst for the process resulting in Chizik's firing, which was another thing many people claimed Jacobs could not appreciate. Also Tim Jackson is gone from the football program.

Jacobs is handling his business and really he's doing it the right way.

I'm confident our next coach will be a clear touchdown hire.
