I heard via Facebook that the man who was the assistant principal at my high school outside of Pittsburgh, John Liptak, passed away yesterday. In reading his obituary, I found out something I never knew about him: he was a former Auburn football, basketball, and baseball player. Digging a bit further, I found out that Mr. Liptak owned the record at Auburn for the longest interception return (98 yards) from 1947 until Walter McFadden broke the record in 2007.

Mr. Liptak was the "bad cop" kind of vice principal, but we knew he cared about us kids and believed in discipline. We loved him. RIP, Mr. Liptak.
